Data Pools and Syndication Round Table

· 2022-06-28 · Updated 2026-09-23 · 1 min read

Onboarding detailed product data from many suppliers turns into a pile of one-off mappings. A centralized data pool is the alternative: one connection that brings in a set of suppliers from one industry, instead of a mapping per supplier.

Data pools or data swamps?

The harder questions start after you connect. The pool may not hold everything you need, for example because of limits on image resolution. More than one pool may exist for the same product. On a marketplace, vendors also type their own product data in. If you are the supplier, you still have to choose: put the product data in a pool, or build a direct connection.

This hour-long conversation with four people from the field covers data pools and syndication: what you gain, what you give up, and where connections fail, whether the pool is an input or an output. The discussion uses real problem cases, the fixes people actually use, and where the market is heading.
