Reducing Risk and Costs with PIM for BIM

Product Information Management (PIM) stores product information in one place. Used with Building Information Modeling (BIM), that place is what the project and its product data share.
People on the project need the specification without searching three folders for it. A single repository does that. It also cuts duplicate copies, which is where project data usually drifts, and it keeps the set easier to protect than a pile of loose files.
What that changes
- Less time spent looking. The record is in one place, so the next decision is not blocked by a search.
- The same product data for every party. Decisions and messages refer to one version.
- Less risk from a lost file or from two people acting on different copies. The project stays closer to its requirements and to the planned dates.
- Better outcomes, because the information needed for a decision is actually available.
- Lower cost, mostly because search and rework shrink.
PIM is the product record inside that BIM setup: stored, shared, and current enough that the model and the supply can describe the same thing.
