2024 Study: How Product Content Shapes Consumer Behavior
Stephan Spijkers · 2024-10-05 · Updated 2026-09-23 · 2 min read

Product content is what turns interest into a purchase. A 2024 study looked at what shoppers expect from that content, across more than 6,000 people in the US, UK, Germany, and France.
Quality, trust, and a second visit
Done properly, product content raises sales. The research ties content quality to trust, and trust to loyalty: the record is a reason to come back, not only a reason to buy once.
For retailers and brands, the practical read is which product pages shoppers respond to, and what role AI plays in writing commerce content. Both belong in the PIM, because that is where the page is assembled.
What the study gives you to plan with
The open questions are how to change descriptions so they sell, and how shoppers will treat content that AI wrote. The study's span is the whole path: the first search through the review after purchase. That is wider than a keyword list. It is the set of facts a brand can reset its content rules against.
What showed up across the four markets
The sample is broad enough that the patterns are not one country's habit. Sustainable shopping, interest in how products are made, and how shoppers receive AI-written product stories come out as shifts in what people expect, not as a season's campaign theme. A brand that ignores them is working against the expectation that keeps a customer.
