At Primera, ensuring consistent product information across channels was becoming increasingly complex.
With guidance from PIMvendors, the company structured its product data flows and selected a PIM to support
both store operations and e-commerce ambitions.
Client Introduction
Primera is one of the largest retail chains in the Netherlands, with hundreds of convenience stores offering
books, magazines, tobacco, gifts, and lottery services. The company combines strong physical presence with
growing e-commerce activities, serving millions of customers every year.
The Challenge
Primera’s architecture is centered on a Point of Sale (PoS) system, which functions both as the PoS and ERP system.
Products from suppliers are processed via the ERP, which reformats the data into a structure suitable for the PoS.
Primera adds specific elements such as main and subgroups to meet its retail requirements.
For e-commerce, Primera uses Magento. However, Magento was not connected to a central product database. This made
keeping product information consistent and up to date across channels a major challenge. While store operations
were running on a relatively uniform system, the online channel stood apart.
Primera had also started taking first steps toward enabling click-and-collect, which increased the need for a unified
product data foundation.
The Solution
PIMvendors worked with Primera to clarify requirements and map the full product data architecture. We analyzed
how data flowed through all systems, and identified gaps in consistency and integration. Through structured
workshops with stakeholders, we defined what a future-proof PIM needed to deliver.
Finally, we guided Primera in selecting the right PIM solution that could integrate with both store systems
and Magento, creating one central source of truth for product data.
The Results
With the selected PIM in place, Primera is moving toward consistent and centrally managed product data across
both in-store and online channels. This provides a stronger foundation for omnichannel processes such as
click-and-collect, reduces manual work, and improves data quality. The new setup allows Primera to scale its
digital initiatives while maintaining stability in its core store operations.
