On 25 February 2025, Dassault Systèmes announced that its subsidiary Centric Software had signed an agreement to acquire Contentserv, a German provider of PIM and product experience management (PXM) software. The enterprise value is €220 million.
What was announced
- Parties: Centric Software, which Dassault Systèmes describes as a leader in product lifecycle management (PLM), is the buyer. Contentserv, founded in Germany in 2000, is the target.
- Value: an enterprise value of €220 million, stated in Dassault Systèmes' press release.
- Status: the release said closing was expected in the coming weeks, subject to regulatory approval and other customary conditions. We have not verified the closing date, so we call the deal agreed.
- Stated plan: Centric intends to combine Contentserv's product content capabilities with its PLM, planning, pricing and market intelligence products, to help brands, retailers and manufacturers bring products to market faster.
- Contentserv profile (company figures): more than 1,600 customers in 90 countries, with PIM, PXM, digital asset management, content syndication and digital shelf analytics in one platform.
Why it matters
This is our reading, not a statement from the parties. The deal pairs a PIM vendor with a PLM vendor, which fits the pattern we describe in PLM and PIM integration: product data created in design and planning reaches the shop shelf without a rebuild in between. It also adds to the consolidation of mid-sized PIM vendors under larger software groups. The press release is a plan, so the value to customers depends on what ships.
What buyers should check
- If you use Contentserv: ask for the roadmap in writing, including whether the product stays standalone and for how long, and what your contract says about change of ownership.
- If you use a Centric PLM product: ask whether the integration with Contentserv is a product, a service project, or still an intention.
- If you are running a selection: treat the stated integration as unproven until you see it at a reference customer, and compare Contentserv with vendors that remain independent (see best PIM software).
