Bombiix Nets £530K to Bolster Product Lifecycle Management for Sustainable Growth

In a significant boost for sustainable product lifecycle management (PLM), Bombiix has just announced an injection of £530,000 in investment capital, provided by Finance Yorkshire’s Growth Fund. This investment marks a pivotal moment for Bombiix as it strives to redefine the way brands orchestrate their products from their inception right through to reaching the consumer.

Founded in Yorkshire roughly a decade ago by Lucy Blackley, Bombiix draws inspiration from Blackley’s extensive experience in product development and the fashion industry. Driven by her insights, Bombiix has carved a niche in the PLM space, offering a comprehensive software solution that serves as a one-stop platform for brands and SMEs aiming to fine-tune product marketability while optimizing both time and cost efficiencies.

Bombiix’s clientele, engaged in supplying consumer goods and operating across the UK, North America, Europe, and China, is poised for growth, especially given the evolving sustainability regulations in the EU, such as the requirement for Digital Product Passports for all products sold in the region.

The recent funding is fueling Bombiix’s marketing outreach and the expansion of its current team of five, housed in the ergo business center in Hessle, East Yorkshire. Backing from Finance Yorkshire—a fund aimed at fostering growth, employment, and productivity among ambitious SMEs in Yorkshire and Humber—is catapulting Bombiix’s market capture efforts.

Blackley’s background, including a stint with fashion conglomerate Zalando, endows her with unique insights into the PLM sector. “Our solution guides brands and SMEs from concept and product development to production and further,” she explains, emphasizing the centralization and single-source truth that Bombiix provides for product data and workflows. This centralization not only enhances efficiency but also underpins transparency and sustainability in the product life cycle.

With Bombiix’s PLM, companies such as Smiffys, Rubies, Radley, and Joanie Clothing have already reaped benefits. The appointment of Neil Weaver, former Global Supply Chain & IT Director at Cath Kidston, as Bombiix’s CEO, underscores the company’s commitment to scaling its business during this transformative growth phase.

Recognizing the potential to break into sectors like food and drink, Blackley aspires to create an adaptable PLM system that transcends various product categories. On the other hand, Alex McWhirter, CEO of Finance Yorkshire, lauds Bombiix for devising a product-focused solution and expresses enthusiasm for supporting the team’s pursuit of a broader client base within established and novel market segments.
