Gepard Alternatives: 7 PIM Solutions to Compare

· 2026-10-11 · 9 min read

Gepard shows up on shortlists where the hard part of product data is not writing it but moving it: from suppliers and the ERP into one model, and out to many channels in each channel's format. Teams reopen that choice when the architecture changes, when a standard such as GDSN becomes mandatory, or when marketing wants more from the PIM. This guide covers what Gepard does, why teams look elsewhere, seven alternatives with the situation each one fits, and how to switch.

What Gepard is and who it fits

According to our Gepard profile, Gepard is a cloud PIM and product content syndication (PCS) platform from a European vendor, sold as SaaS or cloud-hosted to mid-market and enterprise companies in retail, distribution, manufacturing and e-commerce. The profile lists:

  • Syndication: automated distribution of product data to marketplaces, retailers and digital catalogs.
  • Supplier onboarding: data in Excel, XML or through APIs, mapped to your own standards.
  • A flexible data model: hierarchies, attributes and taxonomies per business and per channel.
  • Localisation: multilingual content for several markets.
  • Workflow automation: validation rules, quality gates and automated publishing.

Our analyst assessment puts its best fit with mid-market and enterprise teams whose main pain is getting supplier, ERP and content-provider data mapped and syndicated to many retailer, marketplace and regulatory endpoints, especially EU compliance feeds such as EPREL (the EU database for energy labels) and ETIM and 2BA flows in industry, more than in-house marketing experience management. The strengths listed are mapping and syndication at the core, a multi-tenant pipeline model, named enterprise customers, a precedent with GS1 Fashion Base, a connector path to Mirakl and other marketplaces, and a freemium option for small-scale trials.

That position is what an alternative has to replace. A PIM built for enrichment will cover the middle of this picture, but not always every endpoint on the right.

Why teams look for a Gepard alternative

  • A composable, API-first architecture. Our analyst calls Gepard not a safe pick for a headless or composable PIM without API due diligence.
  • GDSN, the digital product passport or GPSR as hard requirements. The analyst notes that Gepard's pages on these topics lean on marketing and services, and asks for a proof of concept. If GDSN is central, compare systems that prove it.
  • More marketing enrichment and media. Gepard's strength is mapping and syndication more than in-house marketing experience management. When the work moves to rich content, media and analytics, teams look at PIMs built for that.
  • On-premise or private hosting. Gepard runs as SaaS or cloud-hosted. If you need on-premise, the field is smaller.

The alternatives

Syndigo

Syndigo is a US platform that combines PIM, MDM, DAM and content syndication with a large retailer network, and it is a certified GDSN data pool. Like Gepard, its core is getting validated content to each recipient's requirements, but it operates the network and the data pool itself. It fits enterprise consumer goods, foodservice, health and beauty, hardlines and retail vendor-management teams where retailer compliance and GDSN drive revenue.

Check: our analyst says the network story is strongest in North American grocery and retail, so compare recipient coverage for your own European retailers and marketplaces. Authoring and composable APIs are secondary, and the content hub and Riversand MDM are two integration surfaces. More in our Syndigo comparison.

inRiver

inRiver is a Swedish SaaS PIM on Microsoft Azure, founded in 2007, with an elastic data model and syndication and digital shelf analytics as first-class features. Print and PDF come from the same governed model. It fits manufacturers, brands and wholesalers with complex catalogs and many channels and marketplaces. Compared with Gepard, it puts more weight on enrichment, analytics and print inside the PIM.

Check: pricing is quote-only with indexed renewals, so model three to five years of cost. GS1, GDSN and ETIM are often partner extensions, which matters if ETIM and 2BA flows are part of what Gepard does for you today.

Pimberly

Pimberly is a UK cloud PIM and DAM built on AWS. It fits mid-market and enterprise retailers, brands and manufacturers with large multi-category catalogs that syndicate to websites, marketplaces and partners, with AI enrichment, channel-specific content and localisation in the same system. It suits teams that want media and enrichment next to syndication.

Check: the analyst note on the profile is short: evaluate deployment effort, proof of standards support and commercial transparency. Test supplier onboarding with one of your messiest supplier files, since that is where Gepard is strong.

Bluestone PIM

Bluestone PIM is a Norwegian SaaS PIM with an API-only, MACH-certified microservice architecture, a native DAM, validation rules and completeness scoring. It fits mid-market and enterprise manufacturers, distributors and omnichannel retailers that build a composable stack, which is exactly the case where our analyst asks for API diligence on Gepard.

Check: our analyst advises evaluating deployment effort, proof of standards support and commercial transparency. Ask how it reaches each endpoint on your list: natively, through a partner, or through your own integration.

SyncForce

SyncForce is a Dutch platform for brand manufacturers in packaged goods such as food, pet, home and personal care, and building and DIY products. It models trade hierarchies, products and packaging, and our analyst lists an evidenced GDSN connector with named markets and data pools, an integrated DAM, stage gates for new product development and document automation. Compared with Gepard, it covers the product lifecycle and packaging, not only syndication.

Check: our analyst calls it not for small companies, retail, fashion, automotive or engineer-to-order. Headless and composable buyers will hit read-API and release constraints, and each new GDSN sector or market is a project.

Viamedici

Viamedici is a German enterprise suite that combines PIM, multidomain MDM, DAM, catalog publishing and a configurator (CPQ), built around SAP and sold as SaaS, cloud-hosted or on-premise. It fits SAP-centric manufacturers and industrial distributors with complex products and ETIM or eCl@ss requirements. Where Gepard handles industrial classification as part of syndication, Viamedici keeps it inside a governed master data platform.

Check: it is not a lean composable PIM, so expect suite complexity and integrator cost. Evidence for GDSN and GS1 retail syndication is thin, and its CatalogExpress module is partner middleware.

Crystallize

Crystallize is a Norwegian headless platform, founded in 2017, that combines PIM, content and commerce behind a GraphQL API, with subscription commerce built in. It fits digital-native direct-to-consumer and B2B commerce teams with engineering capacity. It is a different approach from Gepard: product data feeds your own storefront first, not a long list of external endpoints.

Check: it has no native GDSN, ETIM or marketplace syndication, so the endpoints Gepard reaches today would need a feed tool or a custom build. Our analyst notes it is not a pure PIM for ERP-centric catalog operations.

How to choose and switch

  1. List your endpoints and mappings

Every retailer, marketplace, data pool and regulatory feed you serve, with its format, frequency and the mapping rules behind it. Those mappings are the work your team has put into Gepard.

  2. Write requirements and a shortlist

Add your sources, standards (GDSN, ETIM, EPREL) and architecture needs. Our PIM RFP guide helps. Pick three or four systems from the list above.

  3. Demo with your own data

Give each vendor a real supplier file and two endpoints with different rules, plus an EPREL or ETIM export if you need one. Let the people who run the feeds score the work.

  4. Migrate endpoint by endpoint

Move one endpoint at a time and run both systems in parallel until the outputs match.

  5. Agree the contract and switch off last

Sign when the pilot works, and switch Gepard off only when every feed runs from the new system.

Frequently asked questions

What is Gepard PIM?

Gepard is a cloud PIM and product content syndication platform. It maps supplier, ERP and content-provider data to one model and sends it to retailers, marketplaces, digital catalogs and regulatory endpoints. It is sold as SaaS or cloud-hosted to mid-market and enterprise companies in retail, distribution, manufacturing and e-commerce.

What kind of company is Gepard?

A European software vendor, active across Europe, that sells its PIM and syndication platform under a proprietary licence. Our profile mentions named enterprise customers, a precedent with GS1 Fashion Base and a freemium option for small-scale trials.

What are the best alternatives to Gepard?

For syndication with a retailer network and GDSN, Syndigo, or SyncForce for packaged-goods manufacturers. For enrichment, media and analytics, inRiver and Pimberly. For a composable stack, Bluestone PIM, or Crystallize inside a headless commerce backend. For SAP-centric industrial manufacturers, Viamedici.

When is Gepard the right choice?

When your main problem is mapping supplier and ERP data and sending it to many retailer, marketplace and regulatory endpoints, such as EU energy label feeds (EPREL) or ETIM and 2BA flows, more than marketing enrichment inside the PIM.

Is Gepard a headless PIM?

Our analyst calls it not a safe pick for a headless or composable PIM without API due diligence. If an API-first architecture is a hard requirement, test Gepard's API in a proof of concept and compare it with Bluestone PIM or Crystallize.

Does Gepard support GDSN and the digital product passport?

Gepard publishes pages on GDSN, the digital product passport and GPSR, but our analyst notes they lean on marketing and services. Ask for a proof of concept. For proven GDSN, compare Syndigo, a certified data pool, or SyncForce, which has an evidenced GDSN connector.

Which Gepard alternative is better for product content and media?

inRiver and Pimberly put more weight on enrichment inside the PIM. Pimberly combines PIM and DAM, and inRiver adds digital shelf analytics and print from the same model. Test both with a messy supplier file, because supplier mapping is where Gepard is strong.

How do you switch from Gepard?

List every endpoint and its mapping rules, write requirements, test the shortlist with a real supplier file and two endpoints, then move one endpoint at a time with a parallel run. Switch Gepard off only when every feed runs from the new system.
