Round Table PPWR & DPP: Practical Steps towards Compliance

PIMvendors.com hosted a round table on the two EU regulations now reshaping product data requirements: the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) and the Digital Product Passport (DPP) under ESPR. The timing was deliberate. The PPWR Declaration of Conformity obligation has applied to every unique packaging type placed on the EU market since 12 August 2026, and the first DPP deadline, for batteries, follows in February 2027.

Stephan Spijkers (Co-Founder, PIMvendors.com) moderated the session, joined by Hans de Gier (Founder & CEO, SyncForce) and Paul Oudenhooven-Pluijmert (Business Development Director, SyncForce). The panel focused on execution: what compliance teams, product data owners and IT need to have in place, in what order, and which systems carry the load.

For PIM buyers, the message is direct. PPWR and DPP pull from the same underlying data: material composition, component weights, recycled content, substances of concern and supplier evidence. Where a product already carries a DPP, both sets of information share one data carrier. Organisations that scope a PIM project around marketing content alone will fund a second project within 18 months. Packaging hierarchies, compliance evidence and supplier data onboarding belong in the selection criteria today.

• Start with the Declaration of Conformity. Every unique packaging type needs a signed DoC backed by a technical file, and a generic supplier certificate does not qualify as evidence.
