Perfion Under Boyum IT: A PIM in an ERP Add-On Portfolio

· 2023-05-26 · Updated 2026-10-21 · 7 min read

Boyum IT Solutions agreed on 28 April 2023 to acquire Perfion, the Danish PIM vendor, and announced the deal in early May 2023. Boyum is a Danish software company backed by the private equity firm Volpi Capital, and it built its business on add-ons for SAP Business One. The stated aim was to sell Perfion into the Microsoft Dynamics and SAP Business One install bases through Boyum's ERP partner network. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The deal is three years old, but it still shapes how Perfion is sold and developed. Perfion is now one product in a portfolio of ERP add-ons, and that matters if you are a mid-market manufacturer or distributor comparing PIM options.

What was announced

Boyum agreed to the acquisition on 28 April 2023. Oaklins, which advised Perfion's owners, published the deal on 3 May, and the joint release on Volpi Capital's site is dated 5 May 2023. At the time Boyum described itself as a global supply chain software vendor with more than 12,000 customers in more than 100 countries. Perfion, founded in 2002, had 40 employees across Denmark, the US, Germany and the Netherlands. The terms were not disclosed, and Accura advised Boyum.

The release framed the deal as a way for Boyum to grow its addressable market in the Microsoft Dynamics and SAP Business One install bases, while Perfion would gain access to Boyum's global network of software partners. Perfion's staff and management became Boyum employees, its leadership took roles in the Boyum Group, and the combined group had more than 180 employees. Behind Boyum stands Volpi Capital, a European lower mid-market private equity firm that invested in 2020 and describes its approach as international expansion and buy-and-build.

Mikael Boyum, then CEO, said the deal would help Boyum in "becoming an independent platform and strengthening our position in the SAP and Microsoft ecosystems worldwide." Jan Nørret, then CEO of Perfion, said Perfion brought "deep experience in the Microsoft ecosystem" and that Boyum's "global ERP partner network will bring our PIM solution to many customers around the world."

What has happened since

Boyum kept buying. In April 2024 it acquired NETRONIC, a German vendor of production scheduling software for SME manufacturers that sells to both Dynamics and SAP customers. Volpi's announcement said Perfion had been integrated the year before. It described the goal as a "global ERP-agnostic provider of product value chain solutions."

In April 2026 Boyum agreed to acquire FORNAV, which makes document and reporting tools for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. FORNAV became part of Boyum on 10 April 2026. By then Jesper Andersen was CEO of Boyum IT. The company described itself as 100% partner-driven, with more than 15,000 customers and over 1,100 partners in more than 130 countries.

Boyum's annual report for 2025 calls the company the leading software solution partner in the SAP Business One ecosystem. Growing in Business Central is a stated goal, with an ambition to become a top-10 ISV there, and the report links that goal to "ERP platform independence." It names Perfion as the deal that added PIM to the portfolio.

Perfion itself is now sold from a Boyum site. Its product owner's review of 2025 leads with the Content Store, a self-service portal for sharing product data and assets with suppliers, vendors and partners, and the first Boyum product built on the group's new Angular UI framework. Alongside it came a redesigned Import Wizard for structured product data, notifications and comments on the data itself, and AI-assisted enrichment, import mapping and more flexible Actions. Finishing the move onto the shared Boyum design framework is listed as a 2026 priority. Our Perfion ContentStore demo recap shows the product's direction more concretely than the release notes do.

Why it matters for ERP-adjacent PIM

Our reading: Perfion is a clear case of a PIM owned by a company whose business is ERP add-ons. The same pattern appears when SignUp Software bought DynamicWeb in 2025. In both cases a Dynamics-focused software company added PIM to what its partners can sell.

That ownership cuts both ways. Perfion's ERP integration page currently names Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and SAP Business One, and its stated model is that the ERP keeps transactional data while Perfion holds the rest of the product data, so the ERP needs fewer customisations. An owner whose partners sell those two ERPs has every reason to keep those connectors current. The same partner channel shapes how Perfion is bought: many buyers will meet it through their ERP reseller rather than through a separate PIM selection, which makes the purchase easier to arrange but can mean fewer alternatives get a serious look.

The roadmap reflects the portfolio too. Moving Perfion onto the shared Boyum UI framework makes sense for a group that sells several products, and the open point for a buyer is how much of the roadmap serves PIM needs such as channels, syndication and data models, and how much serves portfolio consistency. Boyum describes itself as ERP-agnostic and partner-driven, so companies on other ERPs, or planning to change ERP, should test the product's fit outside the Business Central and SAP Business One partner world directly.

None of this makes the integration the deciding factor. Our article on where ERP stops and PIM starts explains why the ERP and the PIM own different parts of the product record. A good connector moves data between them. It does not settle data modelling, enrichment workflow, channel output or supplier onboarding.

What buyers on Business Central or SAP Business One can check

Start with the connector itself: which fields, entities and directions it covers for your ERP version, and whether it is a standard product or partner-built. If your ERP may change, for example from SAP Business One to SAP S/4HANA, ask how Perfion connects to the new system. Our SAP S/4HANA product data guide explains how PIM, MDM and PLM sit next to S/4HANA. It also helps to know who will implement and support Perfion in your country, whether that is Boyum, an ERP reseller or a specialist PIM partner.

Ask for the PIM roadmap separately from the Boyum portfolio roadmap, including channel connectors and AI features. Finally, put at least one PIM from outside the ERP partner channel on the shortlist, so the comparison reflects your product data needs and not only the reseller relationship. Our Perfion alternatives guide lists options by situation.
