Centric PXM Alternatives: Is It Time to Move On?
Stephan Spijkers · 2025-09-30 · Updated 2026-10-11 · 9 min read

Contentserv customers did not choose Centric PXM. They chose Contentserv, and the acquisition changed the vendor around them. This page answers the questions that follow: what changes, when staying is the sensible choice, and which PIM alternatives to compare if you decide to move. For the wider field, see our Contentserv alternatives.
What Centric PXM is and who it fits
In February 2025 Centric Software, the PLM vendor owned by Dassault Systèmes, announced it would acquire Contentserv. The platform now goes to market as Centric PXM. Our Contentserv profile describes a PIM, DAM and PXM suite, headquartered in Switzerland and Germany, sold as SaaS, cloud-hosted or on-premise to mid-market and enterprise companies.
Its best fit is with European manufacturers, brands and retailers that need:
- PIM and DAM in one product, with native DAM next to the product record.
- Supplier onboarding with golden-record patterns for product data.
- Industrial classification such as ETIM, GS1 and eCl@ss. Treat classification and GS1 publication as a paid app or partner work unless a proof of concept shows a native path.
- High-volume syndication to marketplaces and feeds through Shoppingfeed, and a print path through a publishing partner.
There is one more fit signal: the case is stronger when alignment with Centric's PLM suite is attractive to you.
| System | What it owns | Who works in it | The question it answers |
|---|---|---|---|
| PLMProduct lifecycle managementPLM guide | The product while it is designed and engineered: specifications, bills of materials, changes and compliance. | R&D, engineering, quality and sourcing. | What exactly are we making, and which version is released? |
| PIMProduct information managementPIM guide | Sellable product content: attributes, descriptions, asset links, translations and channel versions. | E-commerce, marketing, category and product content teams. | Is this product complete and ready to sell on this channel? |
| DAMDigital asset managementDAM guide | Files and media: images, video, documents, renditions and usage rights. | Brand, creative and marketing teams. | Where is the approved file, and where may we use it? |
That suite is the new argument for staying. PLM manages the product while it is designed and sourced; the PXM platform manages the content that sells it. If you neither run nor plan to run Centric PLM, that argument does not apply to you.
Why teams look for a Centric PXM alternative
What changes for existing customers
- The counterparty. You now contract with Centric PXM. Check which entity your licence, support agreement and data processing agreement are with, and what changes at renewal.
- The roadmap. Product priorities are now set inside a PLM company. Clarify the roadmap and support continuity before you commit to another term.
- The integration story. Alignment with Centric PLM becomes part of the pitch. That is valuable if you run Centric PLM, and less relevant if you do not.
An acquisition does not change your data model, integrations or workflows overnight. The question is where the platform goes next, and on what terms.
When staying makes sense
- The PIM, DAM, supplier onboarding and syndication cover your work today.
- You run Centric PLM, or plan to, and want product development and product content from one vendor.
- The roadmap and support answers you get in writing fit your plans for the next three years.
When moving makes sense
- The roadmap answers do not fit, or support continuity for your deployment model, for example on-premise, stays unclear.
- You need master data beyond products. The platform is not a substitute for domain-agnostic enterprise MDM, such as customer or finance data.
- You want a composable, API-first PIM next to a headless shop, rather than a suite.
- You do not run Centric PLM and do not want your PIM roadmap tied to a PLM vendor.

The alternatives
The seven options are ordered by how closely they match what Contentserv customers typically use it for.
censhare
censhare is a German platform that combines PIM, DAM and content management, sold as SaaS, cloud-hosted or on-premise to mid-market and enterprise companies.
It is the closest match if PIM and DAM in one product is why you chose Contentserv. DAM is a core module, next to configurable workflows, quality gates, completeness checks and multilingual, multichannel publishing. A native engineering BOM or configurator is not documented, so complex configurable products likely need another tool.
Check: test deployment effort, proof of the standards you need, and commercial transparency.
novomind iPIM
novomind iPIM is the PIM of novomind, a German vendor, sold as SaaS, cloud-hosted or on-premise.
Its best fit is with mid-to-large European retailers, wholesalers and buying cooperatives with hundreds of supplier catalogs. Its strengths are governed supplier onboarding and data quality at scale, a BPMN workflow engine, native DAM and a strong print and InDesign path. That overlaps with Contentserv's supplier onboarding and DAM, with more weight on retail.
Check: syndication and real-time publishing often assume novomind's own iMARKET and iSHOP, and its GDSN certification emphasizes receiving data, not replacing a data pool publisher.
Viamedici
Viamedici is a German enterprise suite that combines PIM, MDM, DAM and configure-price-quote, sold as SaaS, cloud-hosted or on-premise.
It fits SAP-centric manufacturers and industrial distributors with configurable products, multilingual print and digital catalogs, and a need for ETIM and eCl@ss. Unlike Contentserv, it offers multidomain MDM with a golden record and a supplier portal, which matters if you need master data beyond products.
Check: it is not a lean composable PIM, so budget for suite complexity and integrator costs. Evidence for GDSN and GS1 retail syndication is thin.
inRiver
inRiver is a Swedish SaaS PIM that runs on Microsoft Azure.
It fits manufacturers, brands and wholesalers with complex catalogs and many channels and marketplaces that want print and PDF from the same governed model, plus digital shelf analytics inside the PIM. Compared with Contentserv, it is cloud only: there is no on-premise option.
Check: pricing is quote-only with indexed renewals, so model the cost over three to five years. GS1, GDSN and ETIM often run through partner extensions.
Bluestone PIM
Bluestone PIM is a Norwegian SaaS PIM built on microservices, with an API-only, MACH-certified architecture.
It fits mid-market and enterprise manufacturers, distributors and omnichannel retailers that want a PIM component in a composable stack rather than a suite. It has native DAM with a CDN and a PDF generator, validation rules, completeness scoring and AI for enrichment and translation. It does not come with a PLM.
Check: test deployment effort, proof of standards support and the commercial terms.
Syndigo
Syndigo is a US platform that combines PIM, MDM and content syndication with a large retailer network, and it operates a certified GDSN data pool.
It fits enterprise teams in consumer goods, foodservice, health and beauty, hardlines and retail vendor management, where retailer compliance, GDSN and enhanced product page content drive revenue. Its Riversand MDM covers customer, vendor and location data, which Contentserv does not.
Check: authoring and composable APIs are secondary to the network, and the content hub and the Riversand MDM are two integration surfaces, so plan an architecture review. Our Syndigo comparison goes deeper.
Crystallize
Crystallize is a Norwegian headless platform that combines PIM, content and commerce behind a GraphQL API, aimed at small and mid-sized companies.
It fits digital-native D2C or B2B commerce teams that want one composable backend for product storytelling, subscriptions, multi-market pricing and custom storefronts, and have engineering capacity in house. It is a much smaller footprint than Contentserv: not a PIM for ERP-centric catalog operations.
Check: it has no native GDSN, ETIM or marketplace syndication, so budget custom work for those or leave them out of scope.
How to decide, and how to switch
Get the roadmap answers in writing
Ask Centric PXM about the roadmap for the modules you use, support for your deployment model, the contracting entity and the renewal terms. Compare the answers with your own three-year plan.
Write down your requirements
List what the platform does for you today: data model, DAM assets, supplier onboarding, classification standards, channels, print and integrations. The PIM RFP guide helps turn that list into requirements.
Shortlist three, including Centric PXM
Put the current platform on the shortlist next to two alternatives. If it wins the comparison, staying becomes a decision instead of a default.
Demo with your own data
Give each vendor a sample of your product families, assets and supplier files, and score every demo on the same scripts.
Plan the migration in slices
Map the data model, move the DAM assets with their links, and migrate one product family or channel at a time with a parallel run.
Time the contracts
Align the end of the Centric PXM contract with the date the last feed runs from the new system, not the other way round.

Frequently asked questions
What is Centric PXM?
Centric PXM is the product experience management platform that was sold as Contentserv. Centric Software, the PLM vendor owned by Dassault Systèmes, announced the acquisition of Contentserv in February 2025. The platform combines PIM, DAM and syndication for mid-market and enterprise manufacturers, brands and retailers.
Is Centric PXM the same as Contentserv?
Yes. Centric PXM is Contentserv under Centric Software's ownership. Our vendor profile still lists it as Contentserv. Existing customers now deal with Centric for contracts, roadmap and support.
What changes for existing Contentserv customers?
The owner, the brand and the direction of the roadmap. Clarify the roadmap and support continuity with Centric PXM. Ask in writing about your deployment model, the modules you license, the renewal terms and how the platform will connect to Centric PLM.
Should I move away from Centric PXM?
Not by default. If the platform does the job and you run or plan to run Centric PLM, the suite alignment is a reason to stay. Consider moving when the roadmap answers do not fit your plans, when you need master data beyond products, or when you want a composable, API-first PIM next to a headless shop.
What are the best alternatives to Centric PXM?
For PIM and DAM in one platform, censhare. For retail and wholesale with many supplier catalogs, novomind iPIM. For SAP-centric manufacturers, Viamedici. For syndication and print from one model, inRiver. For a composable stack, Bluestone PIM. For a retailer network and GDSN, Syndigo. For a digital-native commerce backend, Crystallize.
Does Centric PXM replace an MDM?
Only for the product domain. It offers golden-record patterns for product data, but the platform is not a substitute for domain-agnostic enterprise MDM, such as customer or finance data.
How do you move off Centric PXM?
Inventory the data model, the DAM assets, the integrations and the channels. Treat the product data and the asset library as two migrations, move one product family or channel at a time with a parallel run, and end the contract only when every feed runs from the new system.
