Which PIM Fits a WooCommerce or Shopify Webshop? (2026)
- 01PIM

Last updated: 7 November 2026.
Which PIM fits your webshop depends first on your platform. For Shopify, many PIMs have their own app in the Shopify App Store, including Akeneo, Plytix, Sales Layer, Salsify, inriver, Bluestone PIM and Apimio. For WooCommerce the choice is much smaller: of the PIMs we reviewed, only WisePIM and AtroPIM document a connection, both through the WooCommerce REST API. A small webshop is best off starting with WisePIM or Plytix, a growing brand with more channels with Akeneo or Sales Layer, and a webshop that also sells on bol.com combines a PIM with an integrator such as ChannelEngine.
This page compares, vendor by vendor, what is documented for both Shopify and WooCommerce, explains how to connect a PIM to WooCommerce, and shows where the choice for Shopify turns out differently. If your webshop runs on Shopify and you sell mainly on marketplaces, also read our comparison Best PIM for Shopify and marketplaces.
Which PIM software fits WooCommerce or Shopify?
The table shows what each vendor publishes itself about a connection with Shopify and WooCommerce: in the Shopify App Store, the WordPress plugin directory or its own documentation. "Not documented" means we found nothing on those pages, not that it is impossible. On the WooCommerce Marketplace we found no PIM connection at all. As of 7 November 2026.
| Vendor | Shopify connection | WooCommerce connection | Connection type | Prices published | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| WisePIM | Direct connection through the Shopify Admin API, sign-in via Shopify | Direct connection through the WooCommerce REST API, no plugin; translations only with WPML and WCML or Polylang Pro | API, built by the vendor itself | Yes: free up to 100 products, Lite €119 per month billed annually; connection included in every plan | WisePIM Shopify, WisePIM WooCommerce, pricing |
| AtroPIM | Connector from AtroCore through the Shopify Admin API | Connector from AtroCore through the WooCommerce REST API, no plugin | API connector, paid | Yes: setup from €2,000, in SaaS €40 per month for the adapter plus €60 for synchronisation | AtroPIM Shopify, AtroPIM WooCommerce |
| Plytix | App "Plytix PIM Connector" by Plytix | Not documented as a PIM connection | Shopify app | Yes: free Standard, Pro $149 per month for 100 SKUs (Shopify listing) | Shopify App Store |
| Akeneo | App "Akeneo PIM App" by Akeneo; free to install, additional charges may apply | Not documented | Shopify app | Partly: Growth "from $0", Advanced and Premium on quote | Shopify App Store |
| Sales Layer | App "Sales Layer PIM Connector" by Sales Layer, with API connection and multi-store | Not documented | Shopify app | No, on quote; the app mentions plans from $1,000 per month | Shopify App Store |
| Apimio | App "Apimio PIM Software" by Apimio | Not documented | Shopify app | Yes: Basic $199 per month for 10,000 SKUs | Shopify App Store, pricing |
| KatanaPIM | Mentioned on the integrations page; how it works is not described | Mentioned on the integrations page; how it works is not described | Unclear | Yes: Starter €399 per month billed annually, setup €1,500 | Integrations, pricing |
| Ergonode | App "Shopify CSV": export as a CSV file, manual synchronisation | Not documented | CSV export | Yes: free up to 1,000 products, Advance €5,990 per year | Ergonode user manual, pricing |
| Pimcore | No own app; a third-party connector (Hamari) is listed in the App Store | Not documented | Third-party connector | Yes: Professional $9,900 per year | Shopify App Store, pricing |
| Salsify | App "Salsify" by Salsify | Not documented | Shopify app | No, on quote | Shopify App Store |
| inriver | App "Inriver PIM" by Inriver AB; price by contract | Not documented | Shopify app | No, on quote | Shopify App Store |
| Bluestone PIM | App "Bluestone PIM Connect"; free for Bluestone customers | Not documented; not in the Extension Hub | Shopify app | No, on quote | Shopify App Store |
Two things stand out. First, WooCommerce is not a priority for most PIM vendors: not one major PIM has a WooCommerce connection on the WooCommerce Marketplace or in the WordPress plugin directory. Second, "Shopify support" does not always mean the same thing: for most vendors it is an app that synchronises through the API, for Ergonode a CSV export that you start manually, and for Pimcore a connector built by an agency.
Ez-PIM and Piminto are also often named for this question. Ez-PIM lists Shopify and WooCommerce on its connections page without describing how the connection works, and publishes no prices. Piminto mentions a built-in Shopify connector on its pricing page, and WooCommerce only in a free migration offer.
Does a WooCommerce webshop need a PIM?
Not always. WooCommerce itself can do more than many webshops use:
- Products with attributes and variations. Each variation can have its own price, SKU and stock (WooCommerce).
- CSV import and export. You can update existing products by ID or SKU, and include extra fields (WooCommerce).
- A REST API for products, variations, attributes and attribute terms (WooCommerce REST API).
What WooCommerce does not do is what a PIM does: read in and convert product data from suppliers, enrich it with a workflow and approval, check per channel whether a product is complete, and send the same data to bol.com, Amazon or a B2B portal as well. A PIM starts to pay for itself as soon as one or more of these points sound familiar:
- You sell on more than one channel, for example your webshop and bol.com, and the product data drifts apart.
- Suppliers send Excel files in their own format that you retype by hand.
- Your webshop is multilingual and you do not know which products have not been translated yet.
- More than one person edits products and nobody knows who changed what.
If you recognise two or more, take the free check "Do I need a PIM?". For a small webshop with one language and one channel, the WooCommerce catalogue is usually enough. Our guide best PIM software for small business lists the options for small teams.
How do you connect a PIM to WooCommerce?
There are three routes. They differ in who builds the connection and who maintains it.
| Route | How it works | Example | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| REST API | The PIM writes products, variations and attributes directly to WooCommerce through the REST API; you give the PIM an API key | WisePIM and AtroPIM document this route | Ask whether images, variations and translations are carried over, and how often it synchronises |
| Plugin | A WordPress plugin pulls the data from the PIM | Rarely available for PIMs; integrators such as ChannelEngine do have one | A plugin has to keep up with every WordPress and WooCommerce update |
| CSV | The PIM exports a file that you import into WooCommerce | Any PIM with a CSV export | Always works, but stays manual work and is error-prone with large catalogues |
Multilingual shops deserve their own question. WooCommerce is single-language by default; translations run through a plugin such as WPML or Polylang. WisePIM, for example, states that translations are only carried over with WPML and WCML or with Polylang Pro. So test with one product in all your languages before you choose.
In the demo, have one real product with variations, images and translations go from the PIM to a test webshop. Then change the product in the PIM and check whether the change arrives in WooCommerce without anything else changing. That tells you more than a list of connectors.
Shopify or WooCommerce: does the PIM choice differ?
Yes, mainly in the connection, less in the PIM itself.
| Shopify | WooCommerce | |
|---|---|---|
| Range of PIM connections | Large: many vendors have their own app in the Shopify App Store | Small: only WisePIM and AtroPIM document a connection |
| Connection type | Usually an app that synchronises through the Shopify API | Usually the REST API, sometimes an agency that builds a connection |
| Extra product fields | Metafields, also per category (Shopify) | Attributes and extra fields (meta) |
| Variants | Maximum of three options per product; Shopify mentions up to 2,048 variants per product (Shopify) | Variations based on attributes |
| Multiple languages in the connection | Ask per app which languages are carried over | Depends on a plugin such as WPML or Polylang |
| Who maintains the connection | Usually the PIM vendor itself | The PIM vendor, an agency or your own developer |
For a Shopify webshop, the question is mainly which app works best with your variants and metafields. For a WooCommerce webshop, the question is rather whether a maintained connection exists at all, and who builds it. Shopify itself says it is not a PIM but works with PIM software, and that not every brand needs a PIM (Shopify).
For Shopify, you will find all apps, prices and connections in our comparison of PIMs for Shopify and marketplaces. Our sister site pimselection.com has a shortlist for the Shopify ecosystem.
Also selling on bol.com and Amazon?
Then the route to the marketplace shapes your choice just as much as the webshop connection. Since 1 April 2022, bol no longer accepts content uploads via FTPS: you deliver through the Retailer API or through an integration partner (bol). There are three common setups:
- The PIM delivers to bol.com itself. Sales Layer documents a bol.com connector, and inriver is a Gold partner in bol's register of certified PIM partners.
- An integrator next to the PIM. ChannelEngine has a WooCommerce plugin in the WordPress directory that bol names, and a Shopify plugin. Channable has an app in the Shopify App Store. The integrator also takes care of stock, prices and orders.
- An integrator without a PIM. For a small catalogue in one language, that can be enough. As soon as supplier files, translations or approvals come into play, the content belongs in a PIM.
What bol.com and Amazon require from your product data is covered in our Shopify and marketplaces guide. Which PIMs and integrators document Amazon, Zalando and bol.com is covered in PIM and marketplaces.
Which PIM fits which webshop?
| Your situation | Look first at | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Small WooCommerce webshop, one language, one channel | No PIM, or WisePIM | WooCommerce can do a lot itself; WisePIM has a free entry plan and its own WooCommerce connection |
| WooCommerce webshop with developers or an agency | AtroPIM | Open source, with a paid connector through the REST API |
| Small or mid-sized Shopify webshop | Plytix, WisePIM, Apimio | Published prices and their own app or connection |
| Growing brand on Shopify with more channels and languages | Akeneo, Sales Layer | Own Shopify app and broader channel reach |
| Webshop that also sells on bol.com | A PIM plus ChannelEngine or Channable, or Sales Layer | Delivery through the Retailer API, including stock and orders |
| You are moving from WooCommerce to Shopify | A PIM with a Shopify app | The PIM becomes the source, so your product data survives the move |

How we assessed
We started with the PIM vendors that buyers and AI answers name when asked which PIM fits a webshop on Shopify or WooCommerce. For each vendor, on 7 November 2026, we opened the Shopify App Store, the WordPress plugin directory and the vendor's own documentation or connections page, and noted what they say about Shopify and WooCommerce. On the WooCommerce Marketplace we found no PIM connections. Prices come from the vendor's pricing page or from the app listing, in the currency the source gives, excluding VAT. We did not use competitors' claims about a vendor.
We left two names out of the table: Ez-PIM and Piminto, because their pages mention Shopify or WooCommerce without describing how the connection works; they are covered in the text. Channable is not in the table because Channable's own website did not open for our tools on 7 November 2026; its Shopify app did.
PIMvendors is an independent platform for PIM selection. Connections and prices change quickly, so ask every vendor for a demo with your own webshop.

Frequently asked questions
Which PIM software fits a WooCommerce or Shopify webshop?
For Shopify, many PIMs have an app in the Shopify App Store, including Akeneo, Plytix, Sales Layer, Salsify, inriver, Bluestone PIM and Apimio. For WooCommerce the choice is much smaller: WisePIM and AtroPIM document a connection through the WooCommerce REST API. A small webshop should look first at Plytix or WisePIM, a growing brand at Akeneo or Sales Layer, and a webshop that also sells on bol.com combines a PIM with an integrator such as ChannelEngine.
Does WooCommerce have a built-in PIM?
No. WooCommerce manages products with attributes and variations, has a CSV import and export, and a REST API for products, variations and attributes. That is a product catalogue, not a PIM: workflows, completeness checks per channel, translation management and supplier import are not included. For a single webshop with a manageable range, that is often enough.
What does a PIM cost for a small webshop?
There are free entry plans: Plytix Standard, Ergonode's free plan for up to 1,000 products and WisePIM for up to 100 products. Among the vendors that publish prices, paid plans start at around €119 to €149 per month (WisePIM Lite billed annually, Plytix Pro for 100 SKUs). Count the connector too: AtroPIM charges separately for the WooCommerce or Shopify connector, and with some PIMs the Shopify app is an add-on.
How do you connect a PIM to WooCommerce?
In three ways: through the WooCommerce REST API, which WisePIM and AtroPIM document; through a WordPress plugin, which rarely exists for PIMs; or through CSV files that you import into WooCommerce, which always works but stays manual work. Ask every vendor who builds and maintains the connection, and whether variations, images and translations are carried over.
Is choosing a PIM different for Shopify and WooCommerce?
Yes, mainly in the connection. For Shopify, many PIM vendors offer their own app; for WooCommerce, rarely. A WooCommerce webshop is therefore more likely to choose a PIM that supports the REST API itself, or to rely on an agency that builds the connection. In multilingual WooCommerce shops, translation also depends on a plugin such as WPML or Polylang.
Do I need a PIM if I also sell on bol.com?
Not necessarily, but it helps as soon as your webshop and bol.com need the same, complete product data. Since 1 April 2022, bol no longer accepts content uploads via FTPS; you deliver through the Retailer API or through a certified partner. Many webshops let the PIM manage the content and an integrator such as ChannelEngine or Channable handle delivery to bol.com, including stock and orders.
