PIM comparison
Plytix vs Salsify
Two SaaS PIM platforms, one with prices published by SKU count, one built around a retail syndication network. How Plytix and Salsify differ on scope, data model, channels, AI, architecture and pricing, from public sources only.
Same category, two different emphases
Plytix
In its own words “The product information management (PIM) platform built for multichannel commerce”21
A SaaS PIM with a built-in DAM, run mostly from Málaga, Spain, and hosted on AWS in Ireland. Prices are published per month by SKU count, starting with a free plan, and feeds, brand portals, data sheets and store connectors are sold as add-ons. It is built for brands and retailers selling across webshops and marketplaces, many of them on Shopify.
Salsify
In its own words “The Intelligent Product Experience Management Company”25
A Boston vendor of product experience management (PXM) software, founded in 2012 and owned by Cinven since 2026. Its multi-tenant SaaS platform pairs a PIM with syndication to retail and commerce destinations, a GDSN data pool and digital shelf analytics. Salsify says it serves brand manufacturers, distributors and retailers, and sells a separate SXM product to retailers that collect data from their suppliers.

“Both manage the product record and its assets. Start from where your content has to go and how you want to pay, then test both on your own catalogue.”
What they have in common
Read the differences below against this common ground. Both are credible options for the same broad job.
- Both keep to product content: neither lists customer, supplier or location master data domains.
- Both are vendor-hosted SaaS only, with digital asset management in the platform and no self-hosted or open-source edition.
- Both offer REST APIs with webhooks, and both list Shopify and BigCommerce integrations that are priced separately from the base plan.
- Both send product data into ChatGPT: Salsify through an OpenAI channel since October 2025, Plytix through ChatGPT feeds since March 2026.
- Both appear in Gartner's 2026 Magic Quadrant for PIM, and we found no announcement of the placement from either vendor.

Factor by factor
Eight factors, each with how the two approaches differ. Open a factor for the sourced facts and the questions to ask both vendors. Nothing here is scored.
How a capability is deliveredDescribes packaging, not quality.

- Separate module
- Apps or partners
- Not offered

01 · How they differProduct scope and packaging
Plytix sells feeds, brand portals and PDF data sheets as paid add-ons, and lists no supplier onboarding or channel analytics product. Salsify includes syndication and digital shelf reporting in its Core Edition, and licenses supplier onboarding for retailers (SXM), a GDSN Data Pool and Catalog Sites separately.
What each vendor sells around the product record, and how it is packaged. Packaging decides what is in the licence, what costs extra, and who you call when something breaks.
Core PIM
The PIM sits at the centre, with product families, completeness tracking and automations.10
Master data beyond products
Product content only: no customer, supplier or location master data domains in the PXM and SXM line-up.30
Supplier onboarding
No supplier portal or onboarding module in the line-up. Supplier files come in through imports with smart mapping and scheduled imports.18
SXM Supplier Onboarding, a separate product aimed at retailers collecting product data from their suppliers.34
Digital assets
A DAM in the platform, with unlimited file storage on every plan and CDN traffic that grows by plan.118
Digital asset management is part of the Core Edition, with up to 500GB of asset storage.35
Syndication
Channel performance analytics
Sharing with partners
Ask both vendors
- Which of our requirements are in the base subscription, and which are separate modules, add-ons or partner apps?
- Who supports a partner app when it breaks: you, the partner or us?
- Can we add a module later without a new implementation project?
02 · How they differData model and governance
Plytix groups attributes into product families with parents, variants and sub-variants, tracks completeness and runs rule-based automations from Pro. Salsify models products as records with properties and assets, with two levels of inheritance in the Core Edition, a no-code workflow builder and Readiness Reports that check content against each retailer's requirements.
How products, variants and relationships are modelled, and how each platform keeps data complete and approved. This decides how much of your catalogue fits without workarounds.
Modelling approach
Ask both vendors
- Model our three hardest products live: a configurable item, a bundle and a spare part with fitment data.
- How do completeness rules differ per channel and per locale?
- What does a change to the data model cost once we are live?
03 · How they differSyndication and channels
Plytix builds feeds from retailer and marketplace templates in its Feed Management add-on, and connects to feed tools such as ChannelEngine, Channable and Productsup. Salsify runs its own syndication network, which it puts at 2,600 commerce destinations, plus a GS1-certified GDSN Data Pool; check your own channel list against both.
How product content leaves the PIM: to your own webshop, to marketplaces and retailers, and to commerce platforms. If the number of channels is your bottleneck, this factor weighs more than the editing screens.
Ask both vendors
- Show a live feed to one marketplace we use, including what happens when the channel rejects an item.
- Which channel connectors do you maintain yourselves, and which do partners maintain?
- When a retailer changes its template, who updates the mapping, and at what cost?
04 · How they differAI features
Salsify ships an agent, Angie, adds AI task types to workflows and announced an MCP layer for outside AI agents in May 2026. Plytix has announced no agents and we found no MCP server; Plytix AI generates and translates content and edits images on monthly credits.
What AI does inside each product, as announced by the vendor. Vendors ship AI features several times a year, so read this as a snapshot and test on your own data.
Agents in the platform
AI in onboarding
AI for mapping imports is marked as coming soon on the pricing page.8
Access for outside AI tools
We found no Plytix MCP server. Product data reaches outside tools through the REST API and ChatGPT feeds, added in March 2026.2019
An MCP layer that gives customers' AI agents and third-party systems access to approved product attributes, announced in May 2026.40
Ask both vendors
- Which AI features are in the subscription, and which are priced per use or per credit?
- Run the enrichment on ten of our real products and show what a reviewer still has to correct.
- Where is our data processed, and is it used to train models?
05 · How they differArchitecture and integrations
Plytix runs on AWS with Dublin as its primary region and is extended through a REST API, webhooks from Pro and an official Make app. Salsify does not name its cloud provider, offers GraphQL next to REST, and is extended through the PXM App Center, which also lists SAP among its enterprise integrations.
How each platform is hosted, built, extended and connected to ERP, commerce and DAM systems. This is where IT teams spend most of their evaluation time.
Hosting
SaaS on AWS (Amazon EKS), primary region Dublin (eu-west-1), replicated across availability zones.9
Technology
Not published beyond hosting: Plytix runs on AWS with Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service.9
Not published for the platform itself. Salsify's public GitHub repositories are mostly Ruby and Rails tooling, with Ember libraries for the front end.45
APIs
Ask both vendors
- Which connectors for our ERP and commerce platform are yours, and which are built by partners?
- What are the API rate limits, and how long does a bulk import of our full catalogue take?
- Where is our data hosted, and can we choose the region?
06 · How they differPricing and licensing
Plytix publishes monthly prices by SKU count, from a free plan, with unlimited seats and file storage. Salsify publishes no prices and sells Core, Enterprise and Enterprise Plus editions, with the Core Edition capped at 50,000 records, 500GB of asset storage and 100,000 API calls a month.
How each vendor packages its offer and what moves the price. Compare offers over three to five years, including modules, connectors, partner work and your own team, not on the first-year licence.

Packages
Standard, Pro and Enterprise, plus add-ons: AI Unlimited, Feed Management, Brand Portals, Product Data Sheets, Shopify, BigCommerce and Wayfair.8
Core, Enterprise and Enterprise Plus editions of the PXM Advance Platform. Enhanced Content, GDSN, Catalog Sites and Digital Shelf Analytics are licensed separately.35
Ask both vendors
- Which metrics drive the price: products, users, channels, locales, API calls or modules?
- How are renewals priced, and is there a cap on increases?
- What does year three cost if our catalogue doubles?
07 · How they differPartners and implementation
Plytix's directory lists 33 partners, sorted into agencies and tech partners, without published tiers. Salsify runs solution, technology and retail partner programmes, with solution partners in tiers from Registered to Platinum and firms such as Accenture, VML and Sitation in its directory.

Ask both vendors
- Which certified partners in our region have delivered a project like ours in the last two years?
- What does your own team do during the implementation, and what is left to the partner?
- Can we speak to two customers in our industry?
08 · How they differAnalyst coverage
Gartner's 2026 report places Plytix as a Niche Player and Salsify as the only Challenger, and neither vendor announced its placement. Salsify also announced Leader placements in IDC and Forrester editions; we found no Plytix statement on either.

Ask both vendors
- Which of the analyst's criteria match our requirements, and where did you score lowest?
Where each tends to fit
Teams tend to shortlist Plytix when
- prices should be visible up front, from a free plan at 100 SKUs, with unlimited seats and file storage on every plan
- the store runs on Shopify, BigCommerce or WooCommerce, and marketplace feeds go out through tools such as Channable or Productsup
- partners should browse branded online catalogues, and sales needs PDF data sheets built from live product data
- a no-code automation tool such as Make should connect the PIM to the rest of the stack
Teams tend to shortlist Salsify when
- product content goes to many retail and commerce destinations through one syndication network
- content should be checked against each retailer's requirements before it is sent, with digital shelf reports afterwards
- trading partners expect product data through GDSN, and the data pool should come from the PIM vendor
- the company is a retailer that collects product data from its suppliers

Expert view
Plytix or Salsify: it depends on your requirements
On a feature checklist, Plytix and Salsify look alike: both are SaaS PIMs with digital asset management, both keep to product content, and both list Shopify and BigCommerce integrations. The real differences show up in how content leaves the platform and how the offer is packaged: Plytix publishes plan prices and sells feeds as an add-on, while Salsify includes a syndication network in its Core Edition and publishes no prices.
Plytix's published plans and add-ons suit brands and retailers that sell through webshops and marketplaces and want to start on a small plan and add channels as they grow. Salsify's syndication network, data pool and digital shelf reporting suit brand manufacturers, distributors and retailers whose main task is getting content to many retail destinations. Neither strength matters unless it answers a requirement you can name.
What works best for you depends on your unique requirements. Write down your channels, catalogue size and retailer requirements first, then test both platforms with your own products. Talk to us and we will gladly help you run that test with your own data, vendor-neutral.

Frequently asked questions
What is the main difference between Plytix and Salsify?
Both are SaaS PIMs with digital asset management that keep to product content. Plytix runs on AWS, publishes its prices by SKU count and sells feeds, brand portals, data sheets and store connectors as add-ons. Salsify sells editions of its PXM platform with syndication in the Core Edition, and adds a GDSN Data Pool, digital shelf analytics and supplier onboarding for retailers. Which difference matters depends on your channels, your catalogue and how you want to buy.
Do Plytix and Salsify publish their prices?
Plytix does, per month by SKU count: Standard is free at 100 SKUs, Pro starts at €149 and Enterprise at €699, and prices above 25,000 SKUs are on request. Salsify publishes no prices, and its pricing page leads to a demo request. Its entitlement guide caps the Core Edition at 50,000 records, 500GB of asset storage and 100,000 API calls a month, so ask which limits apply to your offer and compare over three to five years.
Can you self-host Plytix or Salsify?
No. Plytix is SaaS on AWS, with Dublin (eu-west-1) as its primary region. Salsify is multi-tenant SaaS and does not name its cloud provider. We found no self-hosted or open-source edition of either.
How do the AI features of Plytix and Salsify compare?
Salsify ships Angie, which it calls its PXM Agent, platform-wide since May 2026, adds AI task types to workflows through its Intelligence Suite and announced an MCP layer for outside AI agents. Plytix has announced no agents and we found no MCP server: Plytix AI generates and translates content and edits images, on 500 credits a month or the AI Unlimited add-on. Both send product data into ChatGPT, and release cycles are short on both sides, so test them on your own products.
Which one fits a brand that sells through many retailers?
Neither is ruled out. Salsify puts its syndication network at 2,600 commerce destinations and runs a GS1-certified GDSN Data Pool. Plytix builds feeds to marketplaces such as Amazon, Walmart, Zalando and Otto in its Feed Management add-on, and connects to feed tools such as ChannelEngine, Channable and Productsup. Check your own retailer list against both.
How do you choose between Plytix and Salsify?
Write down your requirements first, including your SKU count and the retailers you publish to. Then run a scripted demo in which both vendors model your own products and publish to one of your channels, including an item the channel rejects. Compare the offers over three to five years, including add-ons, connectors and partner work.

How this comparison was built
We compared the two vendors on public information only: their own websites, documentation and press releases, plus reporting that names its source. We did not run either product for this page and we do not score or rank. Where a vendor does not publish something, the page says so instead of guessing.
We have a relationship with every vendor on our platform. None gets preferential treatment: all are compared in the same way, on the same factors, for our customers.
