PIM comparison
Centric PXM vs Salsify
Two SaaS product experience platforms with PIM, DAM, syndication and shelf analytics. How Centric PXM, formerly Contentserv, and Salsify differ on scope, channels, AI, architecture and pricing, from public sources only.
Same category, two different emphases
Centric PXM
In its own words “AI-powered product experience management”9
Centric PXM, formerly Contentserv, is the product experience management suite of Centric Software, a Dassault Systèmes subsidiary that agreed to buy Contentserv in February 2025. It combines PIM and DAM with content syndication through Centric Shoppingfeed, digital shelf analytics and an Onboarding Portal for supplier data. It is aimed at brands, manufacturers, retailers and distributors, and Centric says it connects natively to Centric PLM and its planning and pricing products.
Salsify
In its own words “The Intelligent Product Experience Management Company”29
A Boston vendor of product experience management (PXM) software, founded in 2012 and owned by Cinven since 2026. Its multi-tenant SaaS platform pairs a PIM with syndication to retail and commerce destinations, a GDSN data pool and digital shelf analytics. Salsify says it serves brand manufacturers, distributors and retailers, and sells a separate SXM product to retailers that collect data from their suppliers.

“Both sell the same building blocks. Ask how each one gets your content to your own retailers, and what else you would want from the same vendor.”
What they have in common
Read the differences below against this common ground. Both are credible options for the same broad job.
- Both describe what they sell as product experience management, with a PIM at the centre and digital asset management, syndication and digital shelf analytics around it.
- Both sell supplier onboarding as a product of its own: the Onboarding Portal at Centric PXM, SXM Supplier Onboarding at Salsify.
- Both are sold as SaaS, and neither publishes prices or offers an open-source edition.
- Both name Shopify and BigCommerce among the commerce platforms they connect to, and both list SAP among their ERP integrations.
- Both were placed in The Forrester Wave for PIM, Q4 2023: Contentserv as a Strong Performer and Salsify as a Leader, as each announced.

Factor by factor
Eight factors, each with how the two approaches differ. Open a factor for the sourced facts and the questions to ask both vendors. Nothing here is scored.

01 · How they differProduct scope and packaging
Centric PXM sells Centric DAM, Centric Shoppingfeed, Centric DSA and the Onboarding Portal as modules around the PIM, and launched Centric DPP as a standalone product in September 2026. Salsify includes DAM and its retailer activation network in the Core Edition, and licenses its GDSN Data Pool, Enhanced Content, Catalog Sites and parts of Digital Shelf Analytics separately.
What each vendor sells around the product record, and how it is packaged. Packaging decides what is in the licence, what costs extra, and who you call when something breaks.
Core PIM
Master data beyond products

Product content only: no customer, supplier or location master data domains in the PXM and SXM line-up.34
Supplier onboarding

SXM Supplier Onboarding, a separate product aimed at retailers collecting product data from their suppliers.38
Digital assets
Centric DAM, with AI tagging, similarity search, versioning and rights-checked delivery per channel.2
Digital asset management is part of the Core Edition, with up to 500GB of asset storage.39
Syndication
Channel performance analytics
Centric DSA tracks prices, availability, content, ratings and sentiment, and sends weak SKUs back to the PIM.4

Enhanced Content for rich media, a Grocery Accelerator and the GDSN Data Pool, each licensed separately.39
Ask both vendors
- Which of our requirements are in the base subscription, and which are separate modules, add-ons or partner apps?
- Who supports a partner app when it breaks: you, the partner or us?
- Can we add a module later without a new implementation project?
02 · How they differData model and governance
Centric PXM models hierarchies, relationships, variants and regional assortments, with a paid Classification Library for ETIM and ECLASS and AI that flags gaps across the assortment. Salsify treats products as records with properties and assets, with two levels of inheritance in the Core Edition, a no-code workflow builder and Readiness Reports that check content against each retailer's requirements.
How products, variants and relationships are modelled, and how each platform keeps data complete and approved. This decides how much of your catalogue fits without workarounds.
Modelling approach
Ask both vendors
- Model our three hardest products live: a configurable item, a bundle and a spare part with fitment data.
- How do completeness rules differ per channel and per locale?
- What does a change to the data model cost once we are live?
03 · How they differSyndication and channels
Centric PXM syndicates through Centric Shoppingfeed, which reaches 1,000+ endpoints such as Amazon, eBay, TikTok Shop and Google Shopping and syncs marketplace orders. Salsify puts its own network at 2,600 commerce destinations, runs a GS1-certified GDSN Data Pool and has offered an OpenAI channel for shopping in ChatGPT since October 2025.
How product content leaves the PIM: to your own webshop, to marketplaces and retailers, and to commerce platforms. If the number of channels is your bottleneck, this factor weighs more than the editing screens.
Delivery to retailers and marketplaces
Ask both vendors
- Show a live feed to one marketplace we use, including what happens when the channel rejects an item.
- Which channel connectors do you maintain yourselves, and which do partners maintain?
- When a retailer changes its template, who updates the mapping, and at what cost?
04 · How they differAI features
Centric PXM states over 75 AI use cases and a paid AI Connector on the customer's own model account, and Centric announced agents and Centric AI MCP for its portfolio in September 2026 without naming a PXM agent. Salsify runs Angie, its PXM Agent, platform-wide since May 2026, with an MCP layer that opens approved product attributes to outside AI agents.

- Which AI features are in the subscription, and which are priced per use or per credit?
- Run the enrichment on ten of our real products and show what a reviewer still has to correct.
- Where is our data processed, and is it used to train models?
05 · How they differArchitecture and integrations
Centric PXM is SaaS without a named host cloud or published stack, and integrates through REST APIs, connectors and the Centric PXM Marketplace. Salsify is multi-tenant SaaS without a named cloud provider, with REST and GraphQL APIs, webhooks for product, asset and import events and the PXM App Center.
How each platform is hosted, built, extended and connected to ERP, commerce and DAM systems. This is where IT teams spend most of their evaluation time.

Technology

APIs
Ask both vendors
- Which connectors for our ERP and commerce platform are yours, and which are built by partners?
- What are the API rate limits, and how long does a bulk import of our full catalogue take?
- Where is our data hosted, and can we choose the region?
06 · How they differPricing and licensing
Neither publishes prices or a price unit. Centric PXM names no editions or packages, while Salsify sells Core, Enterprise and Enterprise Plus editions and caps the Core Edition at 50,000 records, 500GB of asset storage and 100,000 API calls a month.

Ask both vendors
- Which metrics drive the price: products, users, channels, locales, API calls or modules?
- How are renewals priced, and is there a cap on increases?
- What does year three cost if our catalogue doubles?
07 · How they differPartners and implementation
Centric PXM lists 56 partners in two types without tier definitions, and partners such as SAWS and InBetween sell apps in its marketplace. Salsify runs solution, technology and retail partner programmes, with solution partners in five tiers and firms such as Accenture, VML and Sitation in its directory.

Ask both vendors
- Which certified partners in our region have delivered a project like ours in the last two years?
- What does your own team do during the implementation, and what is left to the partner?
- Can we speak to two customers in our industry?
08 · How they differAnalyst coverage
In the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for PIM, Gartner's report places Centric PXM, listed as Centric Software, as a Niche Player and Salsify as the only Challenger. In the Q4 2023 Forrester Wave for PIM, Contentserv announced a Strong Performer placement and Salsify a Leader placement, and Salsify also announced an IDC Leader placement for 2024-2025.

Ask both vendors
- Which of the analyst's criteria match our requirements, and where did you score lowest?
Where each tends to fit
Teams tend to shortlist Centric PXM when
- suppliers and brands send data that AI should validate and map in an Onboarding Portal before it reaches the PIM
- marketplace syndication should include order sync, for channels such as eBay, TikTok Shop and Google Shopping
- product content should connect natively to Centric PLM or Centric's planning and pricing products
- a Digital Product Passport should come from the same vendor, through Centric DPP
Teams tend to shortlist Salsify when
- content goes to many retailers, and each feed should be checked against that retailer's requirements before it is sent
- suppliers or trading partners expect GDSN, through a data pool the vendor runs itself
- outside AI agents need access to approved product attributes through MCP
- developers want GraphQL and webhooks for product, asset and import events

Expert view
Centric PXM or Salsify: it depends on your requirements
Ask either vendor what it sells and you hear the same three words: product experience management. Centric PXM and Salsify both put a PIM at the centre of DAM, syndication and digital shelf analytics, both sell supplier onboarding as a product of its own, and both run as SaaS. The differences show up in how content reaches the shelf, how AI reaches your data and what sits next to the PIM: Centric PLM and planning tools at Centric, a GDSN data pool and an MCP layer at Salsify.
Centric PXM, with Centric Shoppingfeed, its Onboarding Portal and native links to Centric PLM, suits brands, manufacturers and retailers that want product content tied to the rest of the product lifecycle. Salsify, with its retailer network, Readiness Reports, own GDSN Data Pool and MCP layer, suits brand manufacturers and distributors whose work centres on getting approved content to retailers. Neither strength matters unless it answers a requirement you can name.
What works best for you depends on your unique requirements. Write them down first, then ask both vendors to take your own products through to one of your retailers. Talk to us if you would like help setting up that test with your own data, vendor-neutral.
Independent advice that starts from your requirements, not from a platform.

Frequently asked questions
What is the main difference between Centric PXM and Salsify?
Both pair a PIM with digital asset management, syndication, digital shelf analytics and a supplier onboarding product. Centric PXM, formerly Contentserv, syndicates through Centric Shoppingfeed, sells an Onboarding Portal and connects natively to Centric PLM and Centric's planning and pricing products. Salsify runs its own retailer network, checks content with Readiness Reports, operates a GS1-certified GDSN Data Pool and opens approved attributes to outside AI agents through MCP. Which difference matters depends on your channels and on what else you want from the same vendor.
What changed when Contentserv became Centric PXM?
Centric Software, a Dassault Systèmes subsidiary, agreed to buy Contentserv in February 2025; Investcorp, the majority owner since 2019, agreed to sell at an enterprise value of €220 million, as Investcorp announced. The product now runs as Centric PXM, with Centric DAM, Centric Shoppingfeed and Centric DSA, and Centric says it connects natively to Centric PLM and its planning and pricing products. Gartner's 2026 report lists it under Centric Software, and Contentserv's last stated Forrester placement dates from 2023.
Do Centric PXM and Salsify publish their prices?
No. Centric PXM's pages point to a demo request and name no editions or packages. Salsify's pricing page also leads to a demo request, and its entitlement guide caps the Core Edition at 50,000 records, 500GB of asset storage and 100,000 API calls a month, with Enhanced Content, GDSN, Catalog Sites and Digital Shelf Analytics licensed separately. Ask both which metrics drive cost and compare offers over three to five years.
How do the AI features of Centric PXM and Salsify compare?
Centric PXM states AI across the content lifecycle in over 75 use cases and sells an AI Connector that runs on the customer's own ChatGPT, Azure OpenAI, Gemini or Mistral account. Centric AI, announced in September 2026 for the whole portfolio, adds agents and Centric AI MCP, without naming a PXM agent. Salsify's PXM Agent, Angie, has run platform-wide since May 2026, and its MCP layer, announced the same month, gives outside AI agents access to approved product attributes. Test both on your own products.
Which one fits a brand that sells through retailers?
Both are built for it. Centric PXM reaches 1,000+ endpoints through Centric Shoppingfeed, among them Amazon, eBay, TikTok Shop and Google Shopping, and its marketplace lists a free GDSN Food & Beverage data model. Salsify puts its network at 2,600 commerce destinations, runs its own GS1-certified GDSN Data Pool and checks content against each retailer's requirements with Readiness Reports. Check your own retailer list against both.
How do you choose between Centric PXM and Salsify?
Write down your requirements first, including your retailers and any GDSN obligations. Then run a scripted demo in which both vendors model your own products, onboard a real supplier file and publish to one of your retailers. Compare the offers over three to five years, including separately licensed products, connectors and partner work.

How this comparison was built
We compared the two vendors on public information only: their own websites, documentation and press releases, plus reporting that names its source. We did not run either product for this page and we do not score or rank. Where a vendor does not publish something, the page says so instead of guessing.
We have a relationship with every vendor on our platform. None gets preferential treatment: all are compared in the same way, on the same factors, for our customers.
