Centric PXM, formerly Contentserv, is the product experience management suite of Centric Software, a Dassault Systèmes subsidiary that agreed to buy Contentserv in February 2025. It combines PIM and DAM with content syndication through Centric Shoppingfeed, digital shelf analytics and an Onboarding Portal for supplier data. It is aimed at brands, manufacturers, retailers and distributors, and Centric says it connects natively to Centric PLM and its planning and pricing products.

An Austrian data and experience platform that started as an open-source project and now follows an open-core model on PHP and Symfony. PIM, MDM, DAM, a DXP/CMS, a customer data platform and a commerce framework share one data model. It runs self-hosted or as a PaaS operated by Pimcore, for companies that want one governed source for product, customer and content data that their own developers or partners extend.

What they have in common
Read the differences below against this common ground. Both are credible options for the same broad job.
- Both put the product record at the core, with digital asset management in the line-up and a route for supplier data: the Onboarding Portal at Centric PXM, and workflows, portals and validation in Pimcore's PIM and MDM.

Centric PXM keeps to product content, with Centric DAM, Centric Shoppingfeed, Centric DSA and the Onboarding Portal as modules around the PIM and Centric DPP as a standalone product. Pimcore runs PIM, MDM for customer, supplier and location data, DAM, a DXP/CMS, a customer data platform and a commerce framework in one platform, with no digital shelf analytics product.

02 · How they differData model and governance
Centric PXM models hierarchies, attributes, relationships, variants and regional assortments, with a paid Classification Library app for ETIM and ECLASS and AI that flags gaps across the assortment. Pimcore builds classes in a visual editor, with inheritance, variants as lightweight children and a classification store, and lists Data Quality Management and the Workflow Designer in its Enterprise Edition.
How products, variants and relationships are modelled, and how each platform keeps data complete and approved. This decides how much of your catalogue fits without workarounds.

Hierarchies, attributes, validations and relationships, with variants and regional assortments. A paid Classification Library app builds models from ETIM and ECLASS.217

03 · How they differSyndication and channels
Centric PXM syndicates through its own Centric Shoppingfeed, which reaches 1,000+ endpoints such as Amazon, eBay, TikTok Shop and Google Shopping and syncs marketplace orders. Pimcore feeds channels through its native Productsup integration, which Pimcore says reaches 2,500+ channels, and builds shops with its own Digital Commerce Framework.
How product content leaves the PIM: to your own webshop, to marketplaces and retailers, and to commerce platforms. If the number of channels is your bottleneck, this factor weighs more than the editing screens.
Delivery to retailers and marketplaces
Centric Shoppingfeed reaches 1,000+ endpoints, among them Amazon, eBay, TikTok Shop and Google Shopping. The marketplace lists a free GDSN Food & Beverage data model.316
Feeds through the Productsup integration, which Pimcore says reaches 2,500+ channels, and two-way marketplace sync through the commerce framework.44

04 · How they differAI features
Centric PXM states over 75 AI use cases and a paid AI Connector on the customer's own model account, and Centric announced Centric AI MCP in September 2026 without saying what it exposes or when it is available. Pimcore has an Agent SDK and an Agent Bundle in beta, and MCP support for its Datahub Simple REST API became final in version 2026.3.
What AI does inside each product, as announced by the vendor. Vendors ship AI features several times a year, so read this as a snapshot and test on your own data.

Centric PXM is SaaS, does not publish its stack or say which cloud hosts it, and integrates through REST APIs, connectors and its marketplace. Pimcore runs self-hosted or as a PaaS on AWS, Google Cloud or Azure, on PHP and Symfony, with GraphQL through Datahub and bundles shipped as Composer packages.
How each platform is hosted, built, extended and connected to ERP, commerce and DAM systems. This is where IT teams spend most of their evaluation time.

Centric PXM publishes no prices, editions or price unit, and offers no open-source edition. Pimcore publishes yearly prices per edition and PaaS package, charges a flat fee with no limits on products, assets, sites or users, and offers a Community Edition under the Pimcore Open Core License.

In the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for PIM, Gartner's report places Centric PXM, listed as Centric Software, as a Niche Player, and Pimcore announced a Visionary placement. Centric PXM's latest stated Forrester placement is Strong Performer in 2023, as Contentserv, and Pimcore's latest stated IDC placement is Major Player in 2021.

Centric PXM or Pimcore: it depends on your requirements
Strip away the packaging, and Centric PXM and Pimcore cover much of the same product record: both model variants with validation rules, both have built-in workflows and a DAM, both give suppliers a route into the PIM, and both sell partner apps through a marketplace. The differences show up in scope and in who runs the platform: Centric PXM is a SaaS suite for product content inside Centric Software's portfolio, while Pimcore puts product, customer and content data on one open-core platform that you host yourself or run as PaaS.
Centric PXM, with Centric Shoppingfeed, its Onboarding Portal, digital shelf analytics and native links to Centric PLM, suits brands, manufacturers and retailers that want product content handled as a service and tied to the product lifecycle. Pimcore, with MDM, DXP and commerce on one data model, published prices and a PHP and Symfony codebase, suits companies whose own developers or partners want to shape and host the platform. Neither profile matters unless it answers a requirement you can name.

What is the main difference between Centric PXM and Pimcore?
Centric PXM, formerly Contentserv, is a SaaS suite for product content: a PIM with Centric DAM, Centric Shoppingfeed for syndication, Centric DSA for digital shelf analytics and an Onboarding Portal, connected natively to Centric PLM. Pimcore is an open-core platform on PHP and Symfony that runs PIM, MDM, DAM, a DXP/CMS, a customer data platform and a commerce framework on one data model, self-hosted or as PaaS. What changed when Contentserv became Centric PXM?
Centric Software, a Dassault Systèmes subsidiary, agreed to buy Contentserv in February 2025 from Investcorp, its majority owner since 2019. The product now runs as Centric PXM, with modules such as Centric DAM, Centric Shoppingfeed and Centric DSA, and Centric says it connects natively to Centric PLM and its planning and pricing products. Since then, Centric has launched Centric DPP for Digital Product Passports and, in September 2026, announced Centric AI and Centric AI MCP for its whole portfolio, without naming a PXM agent.
Do Centric PXM and Pimcore publish their prices?
Pimcore does. Its pricing page lists Professional at $9,900 and Enterprise at $29,900 a year, as a flat fee per edition with no limits on products, assets, sites or users, and PaaS packages from $39,900 a year. Its Community Edition is free in production for organisations with annual revenue up to €5M. Centric PXM publishes no prices, names no editions and does not say what drives the price; its pages point to a demo request. Compare offers over three to five years, including modules, apps and partner work.
Can you self-host Centric PXM or Pimcore?
Pimcore's Professional and Enterprise editions are self-hosted licences, on premises or in a private cloud, and Pimcore also runs a PaaS on AWS, Google Cloud or Azure with 24/7 operations. Centric PXM is sold as SaaS, and we found no current statement on an on-premise or self-hosted licence. Centric's security page lists AWS, Azure, Google Cloud and its own data centres without saying which hosts Centric PXM. If hosting is a hard requirement, ask both to confirm the options in writing.
How do the AI features of Centric PXM and Pimcore compare?
Centric PXM states AI across the content lifecycle in over 75 use cases, uses AI in its Onboarding Portal to validate and map supplier data, and sells an AI Connector that runs on the customer's own ChatGPT, Azure OpenAI, Gemini or Mistral account. Pimcore's Agent SDK and Agent Bundle are in beta, and MCP support for its Datahub Simple REST API became final in version 2026.3, with an OAuth 2.0 server for outside apps and agents. Test both on your own products.
How do you choose between Centric PXM and Pimcore?
Write down your requirements first, including who will host and extend the platform. Then run a scripted demo in which both vendors model your own products, import a real supplier file and publish to one of your channels. Compare the offers over three to five years, including modules, marketplace apps, partner work and your own developers.
