PIM comparison
Centric PXM vs inriver
Two PIM-first SaaS platforms with syndication and digital shelf analytics. How Centric PXM, formerly Contentserv, and inriver differ on scope, data model, channels, AI, architecture and pricing, from public sources only.
Same category, two different emphases
Centric PXM
In its own words “AI-powered product experience management”9
Centric PXM, formerly Contentserv, is the product experience management suite of Centric Software, a Dassault Systèmes subsidiary that agreed to buy Contentserv in February 2025. It combines PIM and DAM with content syndication through Centric Shoppingfeed, digital shelf analytics and an Onboarding Portal for supplier data. It is aimed at brands, manufacturers, retailers and distributors, and Centric says it connects natively to Centric PLM and its planning and pricing products.
inriver
In its own words “Product information orchestration for the AI era”32
A Swedish PIM vendor, majority-owned by Thomas H. Lee Partners since 2022. Its platform runs as multitenant SaaS on Microsoft Azure and puts weight on how content leaves the PIM: syndication, digital shelf analytics and print from the same record.

“Both care about how content performs once it leaves the PIM. Choose on how your products relate, where your assets live and what your IT runs on.”
What they have in common
Read the differences below against this common ground. Both are credible options for the same broad job.
- Both are PIM-first and hold product data only: neither line-up has customer, supplier or location domains.
- Both sell syndication, digital shelf analytics and supplier onboarding as products of their own around the PIM.
- Both use AI to map incoming supplier data during onboarding.
- Both are sold as SaaS, without an open-source edition.
- Neither publishes prices, and both list ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and SOC 2 Type 2 certifications, for Centric PXM at the level of Centric Software.

Factor by factor
Eight factors, each with how the two approaches differ. Open a factor for the sourced facts and the questions to ask both vendors. Nothing here is scored.
How a capability is deliveredDescribes packaging, not quality.

01 · How they differProduct scope and packaging
Centric PXM groups Centric DAM, Centric Shoppingfeed, Centric DSA and an Onboarding Portal around its PIM, leaves print to partner apps and adds Centric DPP for Digital Product Passports. inriver ties syndication and its Brand Store to plan tiers from Core and digital shelf analytics from Professional, sells Print & Publish on Adobe InDesign as a module, and integrates with AEM Assets, Aprimo and Bynder rather than stating a native DAM.
What each vendor sells around the product record, and how it is packaged. Packaging decides what is in the licence, what costs extra, and who you call when something breaks.
Core PIM
Master data beyond products
Product content only: no customer, supplier or location domains in the Centric PXM line-up.1
Product data only: no customer, supplier or location domains in the module line-up.32
Supplier onboarding
Digital assets

Syndication
Channel performance analytics
Centric DSA tracks prices, availability, content, ratings and sentiment, and sends weak SKUs back to the PIM.4
Sharing with partners
Not published: no statement on a portal for sharing catalogues with distributors or retailers.
Ask both vendors
- Which of our requirements are in the base subscription, and which are separate modules, add-ons or partner apps?
- Who supports a partner app when it breaks: you, the partner or us?
- Can we add a module later without a new implementation project?
02 · How they differData model and governance
Centric PXM models hierarchies, attributes, validations and relationships with variants and regional assortments, and offers a paid Classification Library app for ETIM and ECLASS. inriver models entity types made of fields and linked to each other, with Product, Item and Resource as the common core types, and released a Visual Workflow Builder in March 2026.
How products, variants and relationships are modelled, and how each platform keeps data complete and approved. This decides how much of your catalogue fits without workarounds.
Modelling approach
Hierarchies, attributes, validations and relationships, with variants and regional assortments. A paid Classification Library app builds models from ETIM and ECLASS.217
Entity types made of fields, with link types between entities. The common core types are Product, Item and Resource.36
Ask both vendors
- Model our three hardest products live: a configurable item, a bundle and a spare part with fitment data.
- How do completeness rules differ per channel and per locale?
- What does a change to the data model cost once we are live?
03 · How they differSyndication and channels
Centric PXM syndicates through Centric Shoppingfeed, which reaches 1,000+ endpoints such as Amazon, eBay, TikTok Shop and Google Shopping, syncs marketplace orders and names commerce platforms such as Shopify, Magento and VTEX. inriver's Syndicate Advance delivers by API, by file, through partners or as a managed service, adds ChannelEngine's marketplace network through a partnership, and comes with its own adapters for Adobe Commerce, SAP Commerce Cloud and Salesforce B2C Commerce, plus a Shopify adapter announced in 2026.
How product content leaves the PIM: to your own webshop, to marketplaces and retailers, and to commerce platforms. If the number of channels is your bottleneck, this factor weighs more than the editing screens.
Delivery to retailers and marketplaces
Ask both vendors
- Show a live feed to one marketplace we use, including what happens when the channel rejects an item.
- Which channel connectors do you maintain yourselves, and which do partners maintain?
- When a retailer changes its template, who updates the mapping, and at what cost?
04 · How they differAI features
Centric PXM cites over 75 AI use cases and a paid AI Connector on the customer's own model account, while Centric AI MCP, announced in September 2026 for the portfolio, does not say what it exposes or when it is available. inriver ships Inspire agents and assistants for generation, translation, enhancement and enrichment, released between October 2025 and June 2026, and has offered an MCP server since October 2025.
What AI does inside each product, as announced by the vendor. Vendors ship AI features several times a year, so read this as a snapshot and test on your own data.
Agents in the platform
Ask both vendors
- Which AI features are in the subscription, and which are priced per use or per credit?
- Run the enrichment on ten of our real products and show what a reviewer still has to correct.
- Where is our data processed, and is it used to train models?
05 · How they differArchitecture and integrations
Centric PXM is SaaS with REST APIs, connectors and a marketplace of free and paid apps, does not publish which cloud hosts it or what it is built on, and names SAP among its ERP connections. inriver runs as multitenant SaaS on Microsoft Azure, on .NET with C# extensions, and sells a connector for S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, certified by SAP on BTP, in the SAP Store.

- Where is our data hosted, and can we choose the region?
06 · How they differPricing and licensing
Neither publishes prices or offers open source. Centric PXM names no packages and points to a demo request; inriver sells Foundation, Core, Professional and Enterprise plans, adds capabilities per tier and says every plan is customised.

07 · How they differPartners and implementation
Centric PXM lists 56 partners in two types without tier definitions, and partners such as SAWS, SDZeCOM and InBetween sell apps in its marketplace. inriver states 300+ partners, ranks solution partners in Platinum, Gold and Silver tiers, and partners such as abilex, Avensia and Aperture Labs sell implementation accelerators.

- Can we speak to two customers in our industry?
08 · How they differAnalyst coverage
In the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for PIM, inriver announced a Leader placement and Gartner's report places Centric Software as a Niche Player. Both hold a Strong Performer placement in The Forrester Wave for PIM, Q4 2023 (for Centric PXM as announced by Contentserv), and inriver announced a Leader placement in the IDC MarketScape for PIM 2024-2025, where we found no edition that includes Centric PXM.

Leader, as announced by inriver.47
Ask both vendors
- Which of the analyst's criteria match our requirements, and where did you score lowest?
Where each tends to fit
Teams tend to shortlist Centric PXM when
- a DAM with AI tagging and rights-checked delivery should come from the PIM vendor
- content goes to many marketplaces, and their orders should sync through the same product
- the company runs Centric PLM, or Centric's planning and pricing products, and wants product content linked to them
- industrial catalogues should follow ETIM or ECLASS through a ready-made classification app
Teams tend to shortlist inriver when
- products have relationships that need their own records, such as products, items and resources
- print catalogues and data sheets in InDesign should come from the same record as the webshop
- the IT landscape runs on Microsoft Azure and .NET, or on SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
- brand assets should reach partners through a self-serve storefront

Expert view
Centric PXM or inriver: it depends on your requirements
Walk through a standard demo script and Centric PXM and inriver answer many of the same questions: both hold product data only, run as SaaS, sell syndication and digital shelf analytics as products of their own and use AI to map incoming supplier data. The differences show up further down the script: how products relate to each other, where assets and print come from, which cloud and stack the platform runs on, and which wider portfolio it belongs to.
Centric PXM's own DAM, Shoppingfeed order sync and native links to Centric PLM suit teams that want assets, channels and product development from one portfolio. inriver's linked entity model, InDesign print and Azure foundation with an SAP-certified S/4HANA Cloud connector suit teams whose products have many relationships and whose IT runs on Microsoft and SAP. Neither strength matters unless it answers a requirement you can name.
What works best for you depends on your unique requirements. Write them down, then have both vendors run the same script on your own products, suppliers and channels. Want a sparring partner for that? Get in touch: we gladly help you prepare and compare both demos, vendor-neutral.

Frequently asked questions
What is the main difference between Centric PXM and inriver?
Both are PIM-first SaaS platforms with syndication, digital shelf analytics and supplier onboarding. Centric PXM, formerly Contentserv, is part of Centric Software, has its own DAM, syndicates through Centric Shoppingfeed and says it connects natively to Centric PLM. inriver runs on Microsoft Azure, links products, items and resources as entities, ties capabilities to plan tiers and sells InDesign print as a module. Which difference matters depends on your catalogue, your channels and your IT landscape.
What has changed since Contentserv became Centric PXM?
Centric Software, a Dassault Systèmes subsidiary, agreed to buy Contentserv in February 2025, and Investcorp, majority owner since 2019, agreed to sell at an enterprise value of €220 million, according to Investcorp. The modules now carry Centric names, such as Centric DAM, Centric Shoppingfeed and Centric DSA, and a June 2025 release names Michael Kugler as Managing Director of Centric PXM. In September 2026 Centric launched Centric DPP and announced Centric AI and Centric AI MCP for its whole portfolio.
Do Centric PXM and inriver publish their prices?
No. Centric PXM publishes no prices or packages, and its pages point to a demo request. inriver publishes no prices either and says every plan is customised, across Foundation, Core, Professional and Enterprise. Neither publishes the unit the price is based on, so ask both which metrics drive cost and compare offers over three to five years.
How do Centric PXM and inriver handle assets and print?
Centric PXM has its own DAM, Centric DAM, with AI tagging, similarity search, versioning and rights-checked delivery per channel, and leaves print to partner apps such as InBetween's Digital Publishing Connector, which produces InDesign layouts. inriver states no native DAM and integrates with AEM Assets, Aprimo and Bynder, and sells Print & Publish, built on Adobe InDesign, as a module. Ask both to show a catalogue page built from your own products.
How do the AI features of Centric PXM and inriver compare?
Both use AI to map supplier data during onboarding. Centric PXM cites over 75 AI use cases and sells an AI Connector that runs on the customer's own ChatGPT, Azure OpenAI, Gemini or Mistral account; Centric AI MCP was announced in September 2026 without a stated scope or date. inriver ships Inspire agents for generation, translation and enhancement, an Enrich Assistant, an MCP server since October 2025 and MCP Code Writer since June 2026. Test both on your own products.
How do you choose between Centric PXM and inriver?
Write down your requirements first. Then run a scripted demo in which both vendors model your own products, import a real supplier file and publish to one of your channels. Compare the offers over three to five years, including plan tiers, modules, connectors and partner work.

How this comparison was built
We compared the two vendors on public information only: their own websites, documentation and press releases, plus reporting that names its source. We did not run either product for this page and we do not score or rank. Where a vendor does not publish something, the page says so instead of guessing.
We have a relationship with every vendor on our platform. None gets preferential treatment: all are compared in the same way, on the same factors, for our customers.
