PIM comparison
ConnectingTheDots vs Pimcore
A product-focused SaaS PIM and an open-core platform for product, customer and content data. How ConnectingTheDots and Pimcore differ on scope, data model, channels, AI, architecture and pricing, from public sources only.
Same category, two different emphases
ConnectingTheDots
In its own words “Good product data starts before your PIM.”1
A Dutch PIM vendor based in Zwolle, run by ID Interactive B.V. under the ConnectingTheDots name. It sells a SaaS PIM in two plans, with an Import & Onboarding layer that maps and validates supplier data before it reaches the PIM, and AI agents for classification, enrichment and translation. It is aimed at retailers, wholesalers and brands; its published customer cases include Wehkamp, de Bijenkorf and ANWB.
Pimcore
In its own words “The unifying platform for enterprise data and experience”31
An Austrian data and experience platform that started as an open-source project and now follows an open-core model on PHP and Symfony. PIM, MDM, DAM, a DXP/CMS, a customer data platform and a commerce framework share one data model. It runs self-hosted or as a PaaS operated by Pimcore, for companies that want one governed source for product, customer and content data that their own developers or partners extend.

“Both handle product data and assets. Decide whether you want one platform for more than products, and who should host and extend it.”
What they have in common
Read the differences below against this common ground. Both are credible options for the same broad job.
- Both include a DAM in the platform, next to the product record.
- Both map and validate imported supplier data, through a layer of their own or through workflows and file imports.
- Both model products with variants and fields that change per language.
- Both offer APIs, feeds or file exports and webhooks for integrations.
- Neither has channel or digital shelf analytics in its line-up.

Factor by factor
Eight factors, each with how the two approaches differ. Open a factor for the sourced facts and the questions to ask both vendors. Nothing here is scored.
How a capability is deliveredDescribes packaging, not quality.

- Separate module
- Apps or partners
- Not offered

01 · How they differProduct scope and packaging
ConnectingTheDots is product-focused, with Import & Onboarding in front of the PIM and ESG and compliance data such as EPR exports and Digital Product Passports. Pimcore puts PIM, MDM for customer, supplier and location data, DAM, a DXP/CMS, a customer data platform and a commerce framework on one data model, with several of these in its Enterprise Edition.
What each vendor sells around the product record, and how it is packaged. Packaging decides what is in the licence, what costs extra, and who you call when something breaks.
Core PIM
The PIM, with Import & Onboarding in front of it and modules for the data model, workflows and AI, publishing, reporting and user management.9

Supplier onboarding
Digital assets
A DAM component for images, manuals, documents and videos linked to products. A two-way Bynder connector, developed by ConnectingTheDots, is offered for teams that keep Bynder.172122
A native DAM in the platform, with a configurable thumbnail and transformation pipeline.46
Syndication
Channel performance analytics
No channel performance or digital shelf analytics in the line-up. Reporting covers data quality, completeness and progress per channel.15
Sharing with partners
Print and publishing
Ask both vendors
- Which of our requirements are in the base subscription, and which are separate modules, add-ons or partner apps?
- Who supports a partner app when it breaks: you, the partner or us?
- Can we add a module later without a new implementation project?
02 · How they differData model and governance
ConnectingTheDots models entities, product families, variants and relations, with fields per language, market and channel and category trees that can follow GS1 or ETIM. Pimcore builds classes in a visual editor, with localised fields, inheritance, variants as lightweight children and a classification store for category-specific attributes.
How products, variants and relationships are modelled, and how each platform keeps data complete and approved. This decides how much of your catalogue fits without workarounds.
Modelling approach
Entities, product families, attributes, variants and relations, with contextual fields per language, market and channel. Category trees can follow GS1 or ETIM.12
Classes built in a visual editor, with localised fields, inheritance, variants as lightweight children and a classification store for category-specific attributes.54
Data quality
Ask both vendors
- Model our three hardest products live: a configurable item, a bundle and a spare part with fitment data.
- How do completeness rules differ per channel and per locale?
- What does a change to the data model cost once we are live?
03 · How they differSyndication and channels
ConnectingTheDots publishes through templates for Amazon, Bol and Kaufland, delivers GDSN records through a GS1 Connector (Qmica) and lists integrations for platforms such as Shopify and Shopware. Pimcore feeds channels through its Productsup integration, which it says reaches 2,500+ channels, runs its own commerce framework and gets Shopify connectors from partners such as Webkul.
How product content leaves the PIM: to your own webshop, to marketplaces and retailers, and to commerce platforms. If the number of channels is your bottleneck, this factor weighs more than the editing screens.
Delivery to retailers and marketplaces
Publishing templates for Amazon, Bol and Kaufland, with channel-specific prices and mappings. A GS1 Connector (Qmica) delivers GDSN records to data pools.1420
Feeds through the Productsup integration, which Pimcore says reaches 2,500+ channels, and two-way marketplace sync through the commerce framework.47
Commerce platform connectors
Integrations listed for Shopify, Magento and Adobe Commerce, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Shopware, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, commercetools and Lightspeed. The page does not say who maintains each one.18
Ask both vendors
- Show a live feed to one marketplace we use, including what happens when the channel rejects an item.
- Which channel connectors do you maintain yourselves, and which do partners maintain?
- When a retailer changes its template, who updates the mapping, and at what cost?
04 · How they differAI features
ConnectingTheDots runs agents for classification, enrichment, translation and channel checks as workflow steps, uses AI to map supplier feeds, and publishes no statement on MCP access. Pimcore offers an Agent SDK and Agent Bundle in beta and MCP support for its Datahub Simple REST API, and AI extraction of supplier data comes from partner LemonMind's openProd.
What AI does inside each product, as announced by the vendor. Vendors ship AI features several times a year, so read this as a snapshot and test on your own data.

Access for outside AI tools
Not published: no statement on an MCP server or other access for outside AI tools.
MCP support for the Datahub Simple REST API, final in version 2026.3, with an OAuth 2.0 server for outside apps and agents.61
Ask both vendors
- Which AI features are in the subscription, and which are priced per use or per credit?
- Run the enrichment on ten of our real products and show what a reviewer still has to correct.
- Where is our data processed, and is it used to train models?
05 · How they differArchitecture and integrations
ConnectingTheDots is SaaS and does not publish its hosting provider or stack; it offers an open API, feeds and webhooks, and we found no app store or SDK. Pimcore runs self-hosted or as a PaaS on AWS, Google Cloud or Azure, on PHP and Symfony, with GraphQL and REST APIs, a Studio SDK and extensions in the Pimcore Store.

Ask both vendors
- Which connectors for our ERP and commerce platform are yours, and which are built by partners?
- What are the API rate limits, and how long does a bulk import of our full catalogue take?
- Where is our data hosted, and can we choose the region?
06 · How they differPricing and licensing
ConnectingTheDots publishes no prices, quotes PIM and PIM Enterprise per proposal and offers no open-source edition. Pimcore publishes a flat yearly fee per edition, from $9,900 for Professional, and its Community Edition is free in production for organisations with annual revenue up to €5M.

A flat yearly fee per edition, with no limits on products, assets, sites or users. PaaS cost depends on the use case, from a base commit.39
Open source
No open-source edition. The terms grant a non-exclusive licence to use the software in object code and prohibit decompiling.29
Self-hosted licence
No self-hosted edition is listed. The general terms mention client-managed servers on which the software runs, but no such offer is described.29
Professional and Enterprise are self-hosted licences, on premises or in a private cloud.39
Ask both vendors
- Which metrics drive the price: products, users, channels, locales, API calls or modules?
- How are renewals priced, and is there a cap on increases?
- What does year three cost if our catalogue doubles?
07 · How they differPartners and implementation
ConnectingTheDots publishes no tiers or partner count and agrees one of three collaboration models with each partner: referral, reseller or implementation partner. Pimcore states 170+ solution partners in Global, Strategic, Platinum, Gold and Silver tiers, and partners sell extensions and connectors through the Pimcore Store.

Ask both vendors
- Which certified partners in our region have delivered a project like ours in the last two years?
- What does your own team do during the implementation, and what is left to the partner?
- Can we speak to two customers in our industry?
08 · How they differAnalyst coverage
ConnectingTheDots is not among the 16 vendors in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for PIM, and we found no IDC coverage of it. Pimcore announced a Visionary placement in that edition and a Major Player placement in the 2021 IDC MarketScape; we found no Forrester statement from either.

Ask both vendors
- Which of the analyst's criteria match our requirements, and where did you score lowest?
Where each tends to fit
Teams tend to shortlist ConnectingTheDots when
- the scope is product data, and the team wants a SaaS PIM that the vendor runs
- many suppliers send feeds in their own formats, and AI should help map and validate them before they reach the PIM
- content goes to marketplaces such as Amazon, Bol and Kaufland, or to GS1 data pools through the Qmica connector
- the product record should also carry ESG evidence, EPR exports and Digital Product Passports
Teams tend to shortlist Pimcore when
- product, customer, supplier and location data should share one data model, next to DAM and CMS
- the platform has to run on premises or in a private cloud, or as a PaaS on a cloud of the team's choice
- a published flat yearly fee per edition, or an open-core Community Edition, fits the budget process
- in-house developers or partners will extend the platform with Composer bundles and Studio plugins

Expert view
ConnectingTheDots or Pimcore: it depends on your requirements
Look only at the core PIM tasks and ConnectingTheDots and Pimcore overlap: both include a DAM, both map and validate incoming supplier data, both model variants and localised fields, and both offer APIs and webhooks for integrations. The differences show up in scope, in how each is hosted and licensed, and in how much of the platform your own team or partners build and run.
ConnectingTheDots, with a product-focused SaaS PIM, Import & Onboarding and marketplace templates, suits retailers, wholesalers and brands that take in data from many suppliers and want the vendor to run the platform. Pimcore, with one data model for product, customer and content data, open-core licensing and a choice of hosting, suits teams that want to extend the platform with their own developers or partners. Neither profile matters unless it answers a requirement you can name.
What works best for you depends on your unique requirements. Write them down first, then ask both vendors to import a real supplier file, model your hardest products and connect to your ERP. Share your list with us and we will gladly help you test both.

Frequently asked questions
What is the main difference between ConnectingTheDots and Pimcore?
ConnectingTheDots is a product-focused SaaS PIM with Import & Onboarding in front of the PIM, publishing templates for marketplaces such as Bol and Kaufland, and ESG and compliance data. Pimcore is an open-core platform on PHP and Symfony that puts PIM, MDM, DAM, a DXP/CMS, a customer data platform and a commerce framework on one data model, self-hosted or as a PaaS. Which difference matters depends on your scope, your hosting needs and who will extend the platform.
Do ConnectingTheDots and Pimcore publish their prices?
Pimcore does: Professional costs $9,900 and Enterprise $29,900 a year, and PaaS packages run from $39,900 to $79,900 a year, as a flat fee with no limits on products, assets, sites or users. ConnectingTheDots publishes no prices and makes a proposal for PIM or PIM Enterprise after reviewing requirements, with implementation as a separate one-off cost. Compare offers over three to five years, including implementation and partner work.
Can you self-host ConnectingTheDots or Pimcore?
ConnectingTheDots is SaaS and lists no self-hosted or open-source edition; its general terms mention client-managed servers, but no such offer is described on the pages we checked. Pimcore's Professional and Enterprise editions are self-hosted licences, on premises or in a private cloud, and its Community Edition under the Pimcore Open Core License is free in production for organisations with annual revenue up to €5M. Pimcore also runs as a PaaS on AWS, Google Cloud or Azure.
How do the AI features of ConnectingTheDots and Pimcore compare?
ConnectingTheDots runs agents for classification, enrichment, translation and channel checks as workflow steps, with suggestions a person can review, edit and revert, and uses AI in Import & Onboarding to suggest mappings. It publishes no statement on MCP. Pimcore's Agent SDK and Agent Bundle are in beta, MCP support for the Datahub Simple REST API is final in version 2026.3, and openProd, built by partner LemonMind, extracts supplier data from PDFs and spreadsheets. Test both on your own products.
Do ConnectingTheDots and Pimcore connect to SAP?
ConnectingTheDots has a SAP Business One integration that pulls items, bills of materials, price lists and stock into the PIM, and does not name SAP S/4HANA on its integration pages. We found no Pimcore-built SAP connector; partner options include diva-e's connector on SAP Cloud Integration (BTP) and Webkul's S/4HANA sync bundle. Ask both to show the connection with your own SAP system.
How do you choose between ConnectingTheDots and Pimcore?
Write down your requirements first, including who will host and extend the platform. Then run a scripted demo in which both vendors import a real supplier file, model your own products and publish to one of your channels. Compare the offers over three to five years, including hosting, implementation and partner work.

How this comparison was built
We compared the two vendors on public information only: their own websites, documentation and press releases, plus reporting that names its source. We did not run either product for this page and we do not score or rank. Where a vendor does not publish something, the page says so instead of guessing.
We have a relationship with every vendor on our platform. None gets preferential treatment: all are compared in the same way, on the same factors, for our customers.
Spotted something out of date? Email info@pimvendors.com and we will check it against the source.
