PIM comparison
Salsify vs Syndigo
Two SaaS platforms that pair a PIM with syndication, a GDSN data pool and digital shelf analytics. How Salsify and Syndigo differ on scope, channels, AI, architecture and pricing, from public sources only.
Same category, two different emphases
Salsify
In its own words “The Intelligent Product Experience Management Company”2
A Boston vendor of product experience management (PXM) software, founded in 2012 and owned by Cinven since 2026. Its multi-tenant SaaS platform pairs a PIM with syndication to retail and commerce destinations, a GDSN data pool and digital shelf analytics. Salsify says it serves brand manufacturers, distributors and retailers, and sells a separate SXM product to retailers that collect data from their suppliers.
Syndigo
In its own words “We help great products get chosen”30
A Chicago vendor backed by private equity that combines PIM, multi-domain MDM (largely from its 2021 Riversand acquisition), a GS1-certified GDSN data pool and a syndication network it says links 15,000+ brands and 3,500+ retailers. It added 1WorldSync, including PowerReviews, in 2025 and Taggstar in 2026. The platform runs as SaaS on Microsoft Azure.

“Both run a network and a data pool. Ask which of your retailers each one reaches directly, and what else you would buy from the same vendor.”
What they have in common
Read the differences below against this common ground. Both are credible options for the same broad job.
- Both pair a PIM with syndication to retailers, digital asset management and digital shelf analytics in one SaaS platform.
- Both run a GS1-certified GDSN data pool of their own, and both have published product feeds into ChatGPT since October 2025.
- Both sell supplier onboarding to retailers that collect product data from their suppliers: SXM at Salsify, Vendor Central at Syndigo.
- Both check content before it is syndicated, and both offer rich media next to core product data.
- Both are SaaS only, with no self-hosted or open-source edition, and neither publishes prices or its technology stack.

Factor by factor
Eight factors, each with how the two approaches differ. Open a factor for the sourced facts and the questions to ask both vendors. Nothing here is scored.
How a capability is deliveredDescribes packaging, not quality.
- In the platform
- Separate module
- Apps or partners
- Not offered
- Not publicly documented
01 · How they differProduct scope and packaging
Salsify sells product content only, with the GDSN Data Pool, Enhanced Content and Catalog Sites licensed separately. Syndigo adds multi-domain MDM for B2B customer, vendor and location data as a separate solution, plus PowerReviews ratings and reviews and Taggstar on-site conversion messaging.
What each vendor sells around the product record, and how it is packaged. Packaging decides what is in the licence, what costs extra, and who you call when something breaks.
Core PIM
PIM in the Product Experience Cloud, with catalog management, data modelling and data quality rules.41
Master data beyond products
Product content only: no customer, supplier or location master data domains in the PXM and SXM line-up.7
Supplier onboarding
SXM Supplier Onboarding, a separate product aimed at retailers collecting product data from their suppliers.11
Digital assets
Digital asset management is part of the Core Edition, with up to 500GB of asset storage.12
Digital asset management is listed as part of the PIM, next to catalog management.41
Syndication
Channel performance analytics
Sharing with partners
Print and publishing
Other modules
Enhanced Content for rich media, a Grocery Accelerator and the GDSN Data Pool, each licensed separately.12
Ask both vendors
- Which of our requirements are in the base subscription, and which are separate modules, add-ons or partner apps?
- Who supports a partner app when it breaks: you, the partner or us?
- Can we add a module later without a new implementation project?
02 · How they differData model and governance
Salsify treats products as records with properties and digital assets, and checks them against each retailer's requirements with Readiness Reports. Syndigo uses a low-code configurable model with attribute mapping to industry standards and retailer specifications, and adds AI-driven validation and duplicate resolution.
How products, variants and relationships are modelled, and how each platform keeps data complete and approved. This decides how much of your catalogue fits without workarounds.
Modelling approach
Ask both vendors
- Model our three hardest products live: a configurable item, a bundle and a spare part with fitment data.
- How do completeness rules differ per channel and per locale?
- What does a change to the data model cost once we are live?
03 · How they differSyndication and channels
Both run their own syndication network and GDSN data pool, so the difference lies in what the vendors count: Salsify puts its network at 2,600 commerce destinations, Syndigo at 2,000+ recipients with 23,000 requirement sets, plus 7,500+ GDSN trading partners. Check your own retailer list against both.
How product content leaves the PIM: to your own webshop, to marketplaces and retailers, and to commerce platforms. If the number of channels is your bottleneck, this factor weighs more than the editing screens.
Ask both vendors
- Show a live feed to one marketplace we use, including what happens when the channel rejects an item.
- Which channel connectors do you maintain yourselves, and which do partners maintain?
- When a retailer changes its template, who updates the mapping, and at what cost?
04 · How they differAI features
Salsify centres on one PXM Agent, Angie, and opens approved product attributes to outside AI agents through an MCP layer. Syndigo runs Synapse, an agentic platform on its MDM, with SynapseGo agents for product creation, onboarding, enrichment and syndication; we found no Syndigo MCP server.
What AI does inside each product, as announced by the vendor. Vendors ship AI features several times a year, so read this as a snapshot and test on your own data.
Agents in the platform
AI in onboarding
Access for outside AI tools
An MCP layer that gives customers' AI agents and third-party systems access to approved product attributes, announced in May 2026.17
We found no MCP server. OpenAI Connect, from October 2025, publishes product feeds into ChatGPT under OpenAI's Agentic Commerce Protocol.54
Ask both vendors
- Which AI features are in the subscription, and which are priced per use or per credit?
- Run the enrichment on ten of our real products and show what a reviewer still has to correct.
- Where is our data processed, and is it used to train models?
05 · How they differArchitecture and integrations
Neither publishes its technology stack, and both list SAP among their connectors without describing an S/4HANA-specific one. Salsify offers REST and GraphQL APIs with webhooks and does not name its cloud provider; Syndigo runs on Microsoft Azure, adds EDI to its REST APIs and builds low-code pipelines in Integration Studio.
How each platform is hosted, built, extended and connected to ERP, commerce and DAM systems. This is where IT teams spend most of their evaluation time.

Ask both vendors
- Which connectors for our ERP and commerce platform are yours, and which are built by partners?
- What are the API rate limits, and how long does a bulk import of our full catalogue take?
- Where is our data hosted, and can we choose the region?
06 · How they differPricing and licensing
Neither publishes prices or a price unit. Salsify sells Core, Enterprise and Enterprise Plus editions, with Core Edition limits stated in its entitlement guide; Syndigo sells editions for Brands and for Retail and publishes no package tiers.
How each vendor packages its offer and what moves the price. Compare offers over three to five years, including modules, connectors, partner work and your own team, not on the first-year licence.

Pricing unit
No price unit published. The entitlement guide caps the Core Edition at 50,000 records, 500GB of asset storage and 100,000 API calls a month.12
Not published: no statement on whether price follows products, users, domains or recipients.
Ask both vendors
- Which metrics drive the price: products, users, channels, locales, API calls or modules?
- How are renewals priced, and is there a cap on increases?
- What does year three cost if our catalogue doubles?
07 · How they differPartners and implementation
Salsify runs solution, technology and retail partner programmes, with five solution partner tiers and firms such as Accenture, VML and Sitation in its directory. Syndigo states 100+ solution integrators and technology partners in two partner types, without published tier levels.

Ask both vendors
- Which certified partners in our region have delivered a project like ours in the last two years?
- What does your own team do during the implementation, and what is left to the partner?
- Can we speak to two customers in our industry?
08 · How they differAnalyst coverage
In the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for PIM, Syndigo announced a Leader placement, and Gartner's report places Salsify as the only vendor in the Challengers quadrant. Both announced IDC Leader placements; at Forrester, Salsify announced a Leader placement in the PIM Wave and Syndigo Strong Performer placements in the MDM Wave.

Where each tends to fit
Teams tend to shortlist Salsify when
- the scope is product content alone, without customer, vendor or location master data
- outside AI agents need access to approved product attributes through MCP
- developers want GraphQL and webhooks for product, asset and import events
- digital catalogues should be shared through Catalog Sites or the free Open Catalog
Teams tend to shortlist Syndigo when
- the programme also covers B2B customer, vendor or location master data, from the same vendor
- ratings and reviews or on-site conversion messaging should come from the same vendor as the PIM
- suppliers deliver through a portal, APIs or EDI, and submissions should be checked against GDSN, ETIM and retailer standards
- the IT landscape runs on Microsoft Azure, and integrations should be built as low-code pipelines

Expert view
Salsify or Syndigo: it depends on your requirements
Salsify and Syndigo are built from the same parts: both pair a PIM with a syndication network, a GDSN data pool, digital asset management and digital shelf analytics, and both sell supplier onboarding to retailers. The differences show up around that core: whether you also need master data beyond products, how AI and outside agents reach your data, and which extra products you would buy from the same vendor.
Salsify's focus on product content, its no-code workflows and its MCP layer suit teams that want one platform for product content, with approved attributes open to outside AI agents. Syndigo's multi-domain MDM, reviews and conversion products and Azure foundation suit teams that want product, vendor and customer data and retail tooling from one vendor. Neither strength matters unless it answers a requirement you can name.
What works best for you depends on your unique requirements. Write them down, then ask both vendors to take your own products through to one of your retailers. We are happy to help you set up that test with your own data, so get in touch.

Frequently asked questions
What is the main difference between Salsify and Syndigo?
Both pair a PIM with syndication, a GDSN data pool, digital asset management and digital shelf analytics. Salsify stays with product content and sells SXM to retailers that collect supplier data. Syndigo adds multi-domain MDM for B2B customer, vendor and location data, Vendor Central for retailers, and PowerReviews and Taggstar for reviews and on-site messaging. Which difference matters depends on how far beyond product content your programme reaches.
Do Salsify and Syndigo publish their prices?
No. Salsify's pricing page leads to a demo request, and its entitlement guide caps the Core Edition at 50,000 records, 500GB of asset storage and 100,000 API calls a month. Syndigo's Product Experience Cloud pages direct buyers to sales, with editions for Brands and for Retail. Ask both which metrics drive cost and compare offers over three to five years.
Can you self-host Salsify or Syndigo?
No. Salsify is offered as multi-tenant SaaS only and does not name its cloud provider. Syndigo describes PIM and MDM as cloud-native SaaS, hosted primarily on Microsoft Azure, and we found no private cloud or on-premise option.
How do the AI features of Salsify and Syndigo compare?
Both have AI agents in the platform, and both have published product feeds into ChatGPT since October 2025. Salsify's PXM Agent, Angie, has run platform-wide since May 2026, and its MCP layer gives outside AI agents access to approved product attributes. Syndigo's SynapseGo offers Product Creation, Onboarding, Enrichment and Syndication agents from April 2026, and we found no Syndigo MCP server. Test both on your own products.
Which one fits a retailer collecting product data from its suppliers?
Both sell a product for this. Salsify's SXM Supplier Onboarding is aimed at retailers collecting product data from their suppliers. Syndigo's Vendor Central collects supplier data through a portal, APIs or EDI and checks submissions against GDSN, ETIM and retailer standards with AI. Ask both to onboard a real supplier file in the demo.
How do you choose between Salsify and Syndigo?
Write down your requirements first, including any master data beyond products. Then run a scripted demo in which both vendors model your own products, onboard a real supplier file and publish to one of your retailers. Compare the offers over three to five years, including separately licensed products, connectors and partner work.

How this comparison was built
We compared the two vendors on public information only: their own websites, documentation and press releases, plus reporting that names its source. We did not run either product for this page and we do not score or rank. Where a vendor does not publish something, the page says so instead of guessing.
We have a relationship with every vendor on our platform. None gets preferential treatment: all are compared in the same way, on the same factors, for our customers.
