Syndigo logo

Syndigo

In its own words “We help great products get chosen”1

A Chicago vendor backed by private equity that combines PIM, multi-domain MDM (largely from its 2021 Riversand acquisition), a GS1-certified GDSN data pool and a syndication network it says links 15,000+ brands and 3,500+ retailers. It added 1WorldSync, including PowerReviews, in 2025 and Taggstar in 2026. The platform runs as SaaS on Microsoft Azure.

Viamedici logo

Viamedici

In its own words “All your Enterprise Information in one place”33

A privately held German vendor, founded in 1999 and based in Ettlingen. Its EPIM/5 platform combines multidomain MDM, PIM, DAM and product configuration (CPQ) with native SAP connectivity. Its industry pages centre on manufacturing sectors such as automotive, electronics, building products and tools.

“Map where your master data has to go before you compare platforms. Retailers, data pools, ERP and stewards each ask something different of an MDM.”

What they have in common

Read the differences below against this common ground. Both are credible options for the same broad job.

  • Both manage several master data domains, with product, customer and supplier or vendor data on both sides.
  • Both sell PIM and digital asset management next to their MDM.
  • Both syndicate product content to retailers and marketplaces, list digital shelf features and support EDI.
  • Both can run on Microsoft Azure, and neither publishes prices or package tiers.
  • Both announced placements in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for PIM and cite Leader placements in IDC MarketScape assessments for PIM.

01 · How they differ

Data domains and scope

Syndigo masters product, B2B customer, vendor and location data and operates a GS1-certified GDSN data pool, with 1WorldSync, another pool operator, part of the company since September 2025. Viamedici runs suppliers, customers, products, accounts, markets and regions on one configurable data model and adds CPQ to its platform; a GDSN data pool connection is not published.

Which kinds of master data each platform manages, and how far it reaches into product content and retailer networks. This decides whether one platform can carry the whole programme or needs others around it.

Data domains

Matching, golden record and data quality

Syndigo describes deterministic and ML-based match rules, a match profiler and a match-score threshold between automatic and manual merge. Viamedici lists matching, deduplication, golden record management and automatic conflict resolution without describing its methods, and neither vendor publishes its survivorship rules.

How each platform finds duplicates, decides which value wins and keeps data clean. This is the core of master data management, and where demos are easiest to stage and hardest to prove.

Match and merge

Syndigo

Deterministic and ML-based match rules, with standardisation and a match profiler. A match-score threshold decides between automatic and manual merge.25

Viamedici

Records from source systems are mapped, matched and merged, with entity deduplication listed as a VIA/MDM feature. Matching methods are not described.36

Golden record and survivorship

Syndigo

Records pass through Source, Address and Golden Record Management stages. We found no public description of survivorship rules.25

Viamedici

Golden record management is a listed feature, and Viamedici says VIA/MDM resolves conflicts automatically. Survivorship rules are not described.36

Data quality

Syndigo

Business rules per entity for computation and validation. Location MDM adds address validation and geospatial checks.2511

Viamedici

Data quality, reference data and metadata management are listed features. Supplier data passes validation rules and approval steps before it reaches the golden record.36

Governance and stewardship

Syndigo configures golden record workflows in MDM, defines Data Steward and Data Governor roles and logs the actions of its Synapse agents for audit. Viamedici uses BPMN workflows with four-eyes approvals, a Supplier Portal for suppliers' own data and up to six historical versions per attribute; details of a steward worklist are not published.

How changes are proposed, approved and traced, and what data stewards work in every day. Governance decides whether the golden record stays golden after the project team leaves.

Architecture and integration

Syndigo runs as SaaS on Microsoft Azure with REST Integration APIs, EDI and Integration Studio, and lists SAP in its App Marketplace without describing an S/4HANA connector. Viamedici runs on AWS, Azure, its own sovereign cloud or on-premises, with native RFC connectivity to SAP ECC 6, S/4HANA and SAP CRM and an Event Hub from October 2026.

How each platform is hosted and how it connects to ERP, CRM and commerce systems. MDM sits in the middle of the landscape, so integration effort often outweighs licence cost.

Where each tends to fit

Teams tend to shortlist Syndigo when

  • product data has to reach retailers through a GDSN data pool and a syndication network run by the same vendor
  • the MDM programme sits next to PIM, rich media, digital shelf analytics and reviews from one vendor
  • location data needs address validation and geospatial checks, or vendor data needs supplier hierarchies
  • the IT landscape runs on Microsoft Azure and the team wants SaaS only

Teams tend to shortlist Viamedici when

  • the business is a manufacturer in a sector such as automotive, electronics, building products or tools
  • product configuration (CPQ) should sit on the same platform as MDM, PIM and DAM
  • SAP ECC 6, S/4HANA or SAP CRM should exchange material records in both directions over native RFC

Expert view

Syndigo or Viamedici: it depends on your requirements

Syndigo and Viamedici both put several master data domains next to PIM and DAM, both syndicate to retailers and over EDI, and neither publishes prices. The differences show up in an MDM programme once you follow the data: how far it has to travel to retailers and data pools, how records reach SAP, how stewards resolve duplicates, and whether the platform has to run outside a vendor's SaaS.

Syndigo, with its own GDSN data pool, syndication network and Synapse agents on the MDM, suits teams whose master data has to end up with many retailers and trading partners. Viamedici, with MDM, PIM, DAM and CPQ on one EPIM/5 platform and native SAP connectivity, suits manufacturers that want product and master data in one place, in the cloud of their choice or on-premises. Neither strength matters unless it answers a requirement you can name.

What works best for you depends on your unique requirements. Write them down, then ask both vendors to match and merge an extract of your own records and send the result to one retailer and to your ERP. We are happy to help you test both with your own duplicates and domains, vendor-neutral.

Independent advice that starts from your requirements, not from a platform.

Frequently asked questions

What is the main difference between Syndigo and Viamedici?

Both combine multidomain MDM with PIM and DAM. Syndigo, a Chicago vendor backed by private equity, adds a GS1-certified GDSN data pool and a syndication network, and runs as SaaS on Microsoft Azure. Viamedici, privately held and based in Germany, adds CPQ and native SAP connectivity to its EPIM/5 platform, and runs in several clouds or on-premises. Which difference matters depends on your domains, your channels and where you want to host.

Which data domains do Syndigo and Viamedici cover?

Syndigo's MDM covers product, B2B customer, vendor and location data, and mentions assets without further detail. Viamedici's VIA/MDM covers suppliers, customers, products, accounts, markets and regions on one configurable data model. Ask both to show one supplier that is also a customer, linked across domains.

Do Syndigo and Viamedici publish their prices?

No. Syndigo's Product Experience Cloud pages direct buyers to sales, and its editions for Brands and for Retail have no published tiers. Viamedici publishes no prices or packages and presents EPIM/5 as modules for MDM, PIM, DAM and CPQ. Ask both which metrics drive cost and compare offers over three to five years.

Do Syndigo and Viamedici run in the cloud or on-premises?

Syndigo describes its PIM and MDM as cloud-native SaaS on Microsoft Azure, and we found no private-cloud or on-premise option. Viamedici runs EPIM/5 on AWS, Microsoft Azure, a private cloud managed by Viamedici, hybrid or on-premises. If hosting is a hard requirement, ask both to confirm the options in writing.

How do Syndigo and Viamedici use AI in matching and stewardship?

Syndigo uses ML-based match rules next to deterministic ones in Customer MDM, and an AI GoPilot flags anomalies and duplicates and runs match and merge across sources. Viamedici lists AI data quality monitoring, data completion and automatic classification for VIA/PIM360°, and added its Data Expert chat assistant in October 2026; its MDM page describes no AI matching. Test both on your own duplicates.

How do you choose between Syndigo and Viamedici?

Start with your domains, your sources and the places your data has to reach. Then run a scripted demo in which both vendors match and merge an extract of your own duplicates, route a change through approval and publish the result to your ERP and one retailer. Compare the offers over three to five years, including modules, connectors, partner work and your own stewardship team.

How this comparison was built

We compared the two vendors on public information only: their own websites, documentation and press releases, plus reporting that names its source. We did not run either product for this page and we do not score or rank. Where a vendor does not publish something, the page says so instead of guessing.

We have a relationship with every vendor on our platform. None gets preferential treatment: all are compared in the same way, on the same factors, for our customers.
