MDM comparison
Stibo Systems vs Viamedici
Two European vendors that put multidomain MDM, PIM and DAM on one platform. How Stibo Systems and Viamedici differ on domains, matching, governance, SAP integration, AI and deployment, from public sources only.
Same category, two different emphases
Stibo Systems
In its own words “A leading provider of AI-powered master data management”7
A Danish master data management vendor, founded in 1976 and owned through the Stibo group by the Stibo Foundation. Its STEP platform manages product, customer, business partner, supplier and location data, with PIM, supplier onboarding and syndication packaged as the Product Experience Data Cloud. STEP runs as multi-tenant SaaS on Microsoft Azure, and on-premises releases continue.
Viamedici
In its own words “All your Enterprise Information in one place”41
A privately held German vendor, founded in 1999 and based in Ettlingen. Its EPIM/5 platform combines multidomain MDM, PIM, DAM and product configuration (CPQ) with native SAP connectivity. Its industry pages centre on manufacturing sectors such as automotive, electronics, building products and tools.

“Both put master data and product content on one platform. Test which one models your domains and approval steps the way your business already works.”
What they have in common
Read the differences below against this common ground. Both are credible options for the same broad job.
- Both run several master data domains on one platform, with product, customer and supplier data on both sides: STEP at Stibo Systems, EPIM/5 at Viamedici.
- Both include PIM and digital asset management on the same platform as their MDM.
- Both offer on-premises installs next to cloud hosting on Microsoft Azure.
- Both connect to SAP ECC and S/4HANA for material records with connectors of their own: IDoc at Stibo Systems, RFC at Viamedici.
- Neither publishes prices, and both cite Leader placements in the IDC MarketScape for PIM applications for commerce, 2024-2025, and for retail PIM, 2025.

01 · How they differData domains and scope
Stibo Systems sells each domain, from product and customer to location and sustainability, as its own Data Cloud on STEP, and reaches GDSN through connectors to atrify and 1WorldSync. Viamedici runs suppliers, customers, products, accounts, markets and regions on one configurable data model and adds CPQ to the platform; a GDSN data pool connection is not published.
Which kinds of master data each platform manages, and how far it reaches into product content and retailer networks. This decides whether one platform can carry the whole programme or needs others around it.
Data domains
Product, customer, business partner, supplier, location and sustainability data, each sold as a Data Cloud on the STEP platform.9
Suppliers, customers, products, accounts, markets and regions in VIA/MDM, on one configurable data model.44
Product content and PXM
The Product Experience Data Cloud: PIM, product onboarding, syndication, digital asset management and digital shelf analytics, with ProductGen AI for content.10
GDSN and data pools
Through connectors: a GDSN receiver for GS1-synchronised supplier content, a Stibo-built connector to the atrify data pool (third-party licence required) and syndication to 1WorldSync. We found no Stibo-operated data pool.171811
Not published: the product pages name GS1 classifications but no GDSN data pool connection.
Syndication to retailers
Product Data Syndication to retailers, distributors and marketplaces, with Excel, JSON, XML and BMEcat output for custom channels.11
Ask both vendors
- Which of our domains (product, customer, supplier, location, asset) run on one data model, and which need a separate module?
- Show one supplier that is also a customer: how do the records relate?
- Which retailer and data-pool connections do you operate yourselves?
02 · How they differMatching, golden record and data quality
Stibo Systems describes match-score bands for auto-merge, clerical review and non-match, survivorship with trusted source priority, and a quality metric from 1 to 100 per object. Viamedici lists matching, deduplication, golden record management and automatic conflict resolution, with validation and approval steps for supplier data, while its matching methods and survivorship rules are not published.
How each platform finds duplicates, decides which value wins and keeps data clean. This is the core of master data management, and where demos are easiest to stage and hardest to prove.
Match and merge
Match scores fall into auto-merge, clerical review and non-match bands, and matching runs again as records change. AI-supported matching works alongside rules.2416
Records from source systems are mapped, matched and merged, with entity deduplication listed as a VIA/MDM feature. Matching methods are not described.44
Golden record and survivorship
Source records merge into golden records through survivorship rules with trusted source priority. A wrong merge can be undone in the Web UI.2425
Golden record management is a listed feature, and Viamedici says VIA/MDM resolves conflicts automatically. Survivorship rules are not described.44
Data quality
Profiling, validation rules, completeness scores and a quality metric from 1 to 100 per object, with address and firmographic validation through Loqate and Dun & Bradstreet.12
Data quality, reference data and metadata management are listed features. Supplier data passes validation rules and approval steps before it reaches the golden record.44
Ask both vendors
- Run matching on an extract of our own duplicates and show the false positives.
- How do survivorship rules handle two trusted sources that disagree?
- Who maintains the matching rules after go-live: business users or specialists?
03 · How they differGovernance and stewardship
Stibo Systems builds workflows in the STEP Workflow Designer, with escalation rules per state, and sends possible matches to stewards in a clerical review workflow. Viamedici uses BPMN workflows with four-eyes approvals and lets suppliers maintain their own data in a Supplier Portal; details of a steward worklist are not published.
How changes are proposed, approved and traced, and what data stewards work in every day. Governance decides whether the golden record stays golden after the project team leaves.
Workflow and approvals
Workflows built in the STEP Workflow Designer, with assignees, deadlines and escalation rules per state, and conditions on transitions.26
BPMN workflows with four-eyes approvals. Suppliers maintain their own master data in a Supplier Portal, inside governed workflows.44
Ask both vendors
- Show a change request from a business user to an approved record, with the audit trail.
- What does a data steward's worklist look like on a normal Monday?
- How do we prove to an auditor who changed what, and when?
04 · How they differArchitecture and integration
Stibo Systems runs multi-tenant SaaS on Microsoft Azure or on-premises, with REST, GraphQL and message-based exchange over channels such as Kafka, and IDoc connectors for SAP material, customer and vendor data. Viamedici runs on AWS, Azure, its own sovereign cloud or on-premises, with a Universal API, an Event Hub from October 2026 and native RFC connectivity to SAP ECC 6, S/4HANA and SAP CRM.
How each platform is hosted and how it connects to ERP, CRM and commerce systems. MDM sits in the middle of the landscape, so integration effort often outweighs licence cost.
Hosting
APIs
Ask both vendors
- Which connectors for our ERP and CRM are yours, and which are built by partners?
- How do changes reach downstream systems: batch, events or APIs?
- Where is our data hosted, and can we choose the region?
05 · How they differAI features
Stibo Systems has offered AI matching for customer records since July 2025 and an MCP Server since June 2026, and announced AgentWorkx agents in September 2026, listed as coming soon. Viamedici added its Data Expert chat assistant in October 2026, with an MCP server and the SAM assistant in development; AI matching in its MDM is not described.
What AI does inside each platform, as announced by the vendor, from matching and data quality to agents. Treat this as a snapshot and test on your own data.
Agents in the platform
Ask both vendors
- Which AI features are in the subscription, and which are priced per use?
- Show AI-suggested matches on our data, with the reasoning a steward sees.
- Where is our data processed, and is it used to train models?
06 · How they differPricing and deployment
Neither publishes prices or named packages: Stibo Systems splits its offer into Data Clouds per domain, Viamedici into modules for MDM, PIM, DAM and CPQ. Viamedici lists a private cloud and hybrid installs among its deployment options, while Stibo Systems lists SaaS on Azure and on-premises STEP.

Not published: no prices or packages on the Viamedici site.
Packages
No named tiers. The offer is split into Data Clouds per domain: Product Experience, Customer Experience, Business Partner, Supplier, Location and Sustainability.9
No packages published. EPIM/5 is presented as modules: VIA/MDM, VIA/PIM360°, VIA/DAM and VIA/Configuration (CPQ).41
Ask both vendors
- Which metrics drive the price: records, domains, users, connectors or environments?
- How are renewals priced, and is there a cap on increases?
- What does adding a second domain cost in year two?
07 · How they differPartners and implementation
Stibo Systems lists 70 partners in its directory and runs Partner 360, with Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze tiers and a points system. Viamedici cites 30 international partners, with valantic CEC, INFOLOX and Abilex at Platinum level next to Gold and Registered partners.
Who implements the platform. MDM programmes run for years, so the partner's experience in your industry and ERP matters as much as the software.
Partner network
70 partners in the partner directory when we checked, in implementation and referral roles across four regions.35
Ask both vendors
- Which partners in our region have delivered a multi-domain programme like ours?
- What does your own team do during the implementation, and what is left to the partner?
- Can we speak to two customers that run more than one domain on your platform?
08 · How they differAnalyst coverage

Expert view
Stibo Systems or Viamedici: it depends on your requirements
Stibo Systems and Viamedici look alike at first: both put several master data domains, PIM and DAM on one platform, both bring their own SAP connectors, and both can run on-premises. The real differences show up in the programme: how domains are packaged, how matching and survivorship are configured, how stewards work through possible duplicates, and which clouds the platform can run on.
Stibo Systems' STEP, with a Data Cloud per domain, clerical review of matches and a syndication service to retailers, suits teams whose master data and product content have to reach many channels. Viamedici's EPIM/5, with MDM, PIM, DAM and CPQ on one data model and a choice of clouds, suits manufacturers that want their product, supplier and customer data and their product configuration in one place. Neither strength matters unless it answers a requirement you can name.
What works best for you depends on your unique requirements. Write them down first, then ask both vendors to model your domains and run your own duplicates through match, merge and approval. We are happy to help you test both with your own duplicates and domains, vendor-neutral.
Independent advice that starts from your requirements, not from a platform.

Frequently asked questions
What is the main difference between Stibo Systems and Viamedici?
Both put multidomain MDM, PIM and DAM on one platform and bring their own SAP connectors. Stibo Systems, from Denmark, sells each domain as a Data Cloud on STEP and runs as multi-tenant SaaS on Microsoft Azure, with on-premises releases continuing. Viamedici, from Germany, adds CPQ to its EPIM/5 platform and runs on AWS, Azure, its own cloud or on-premises. Which difference matters depends on your domains, your channels and where you want to host.
Which data domains do Stibo Systems and Viamedici cover?
Stibo Systems covers product, customer, business partner, supplier, location and sustainability data, each sold as a Data Cloud on STEP. Viamedici's VIA/MDM covers suppliers, customers, products, accounts, markets and regions on one configurable data model. Ask both to show one supplier that is also a customer, linked across domains.
Do Stibo Systems and Viamedici publish their prices?
No. Neither publishes prices or named packages. Stibo Systems splits its offer into Data Clouds per domain, and Viamedici presents EPIM/5 as modules for MDM, PIM, DAM and CPQ. Ask both which metrics drive cost and compare offers over three to five years.
Do Stibo Systems and Viamedici run in the cloud or on-premises?
Both offer both. Stibo Systems runs multi-tenant SaaS on Microsoft Azure, which it says 77% of its customers had adopted in FY 2025-26, and still releases on-premises STEP. Viamedici runs EPIM/5 on AWS, Microsoft Azure, a private cloud managed by Viamedici, hybrid or on-premises.
How do Stibo Systems and Viamedici use AI in matching and stewardship?
Stibo Systems added AI and machine-learning matching for customer records in July 2025, learning from steward feedback, and ProductGen AI lets users write data quality rules in natural language. Viamedici lists AI data quality monitoring, data completion and automatic classification for VIA/PIM360°, and added its Data Expert chat assistant in October 2026; its MDM page describes no AI matching. Test both on your own duplicates.
How do you choose between Stibo Systems and Viamedici?
Write down your domains, sources and approval steps first. Then run a scripted demo in which both vendors model your hardest records, match and merge an extract of your own duplicates and exchange the result with your SAP system. Compare the offers over three to five years, including modules, connectors, partner work and your own stewardship team.

How this comparison was built
We compared the two vendors on public information only: their own websites, documentation and press releases, plus reporting that names its source. We did not run either product for this page and we do not score or rank. Where a vendor does not publish something, the page says so instead of guessing.
We have a relationship with every vendor on our platform. None gets preferential treatment: all are compared in the same way, on the same factors, for our customers.
