Bluestone PIM logo

Bluestone PIM

In its own words “The Agentic PIM. Agents drive. Humans govern.”1

A Norwegian SaaS PIM vendor, founded in 2016, with a development site in Gdansk, Poland. It sells a headless, API-first PIM with a native DAM, AI skills and an MCP server, and has been a MACH-certified member of the MACH Alliance since 2021. It is aimed at companies that connect product data to composable commerce, ERP systems and AI agents across several markets.

Stibo Systems logo

Stibo Systems

In its own words “A leading provider of AI-powered master data management”37

A Danish master data management vendor, founded in 1976 and owned through the Stibo group by the Stibo Foundation. Its STEP platform manages product, customer, business partner, supplier and location data, with PIM, supplier onboarding and syndication packaged as the Product Experience Data Cloud. STEP runs as multi-tenant SaaS on Microsoft Azure, and on-premises releases continue.

“Decide first whether you need one platform for product data alone or for several master data domains. Then test how each fits the systems around it.”

What they have in common

Read the differences below against this common ground. Both are credible options for the same broad job.

  • Both cover the product record with digital asset management, a supplier portal and print output through Adobe InDesign.
  • Both run as multi-tenant SaaS: Bluestone PIM on AWS, Stibo Systems on Microsoft Azure.
  • Both use AI on incoming supplier data and offer an MCP server through which outside AI agents can read and write data.
  • Both rank partners in tiers that include Platinum, Gold and Silver.
  • Neither publishes prices or offers an open-source edition, and both hold ISO 27001 certification and a SOC 2 attestation.

01 · How they differ

Product scope and packaging

Bluestone PIM keeps to product data, with the DAM and a PDF and catalogue generator in the core, extensions such as Supplier Portal and Price Manager, and Digital Product Passport support. Stibo Systems packages PIM in its Product Experience Data Cloud and runs customer, business partner, supplier, location and sustainability data on the same STEP platform, each as a Data Cloud of its own.

What each vendor sells around the product record, and how it is packaged. Packaging decides what is in the licence, what costs extra, and who you call when something breaks.

Data model and governance

Bluestone PIM models category hierarchies, variants and groups, relations and bundles, with contexts for languages and markets. Stibo Systems models object types linked by references, with values per language or country, supports standards such as ETIM, ECLASS, BMEcat and TecDoc, and builds workflows in its graphical STEP Workflow Designer.

How products, variants and relationships are modelled, and how each platform keeps data complete and approved. This decides how much of your catalogue fits without workarounds.

Teams tend to shortlist Bluestone PIM when

  • the PIM has to feed a composable commerce stack, such as commercetools, Shopify or BigCommerce, through APIs and webhooks
  • the scope is product data only, and the DAM and PDF catalogues should sit in the core PIM
  • the team wants to choose the AI model that its enrichment and analysis skills run on

Teams tend to shortlist Stibo Systems when

  • customer, supplier, business partner or location data should run on the same platform as product data
  • an on-premises deployment is a requirement, now or later
  • SAP R/3, ECC or S/4HANA should exchange material, customer and vendor master data through IDocs

Expert view

Bluestone PIM or Stibo Systems: it depends on your requirements

Bluestone PIM and Stibo Systems both cover the product record with assets, a supplier portal, InDesign print and an MCP server, and both run as multi-tenant SaaS. The real differences show up in scope and in deployment: Bluestone PIM is a product data platform on AWS only, while Stibo Systems runs PIM as one Data Cloud among several on STEP, in the cloud or on-premises.

Bluestone PIM's MACH-certified, API-first setup, with AI skills on a model you pick, suits teams that connect product data to a composable stack and to AI agents. Stibo Systems' multi-domain STEP platform, its SAP IDoc connectors and its support for standards such as ETIM and ECLASS suit teams that want product, customer, supplier and location data governed in one place. Neither profile matters unless it answers a requirement you can name.

What works best for you depends on your unique requirements. Decide which data domains are in scope, then test both platforms with your own products, suppliers and ERP. If you want a second pair of eyes on that test, we are happy to help, vendor-neutral.

Independent advice that starts from your requirements, not from a platform.

Frequently asked questions

What is the main difference between Bluestone PIM and Stibo Systems?

Bluestone PIM is a headless, API-first SaaS PIM on AWS for product data, with a native DAM, AI skills and an MCP server. Stibo Systems runs PIM as the Product Experience Data Cloud on its STEP platform, next to customer, business partner, supplier and location data, on Microsoft Azure or on-premises. Which difference matters depends on how many data domains you want on one platform and how your landscape is built.

Do Bluestone PIM and Stibo Systems publish their prices?

No. Bluestone PIM gives a price range after discussing requirements, based on usage such as users, SKUs and languages. Stibo Systems publishes no prices on its site and splits its offer into Data Clouds per domain, without stating what drives the price. Ask both for an offer over three to five years, including modules, connectors and partner work.

Can you run Bluestone PIM or Stibo Systems on-premises?

Bluestone PIM is offered as multi-tenant SaaS on AWS only, with production regions in Europe, the US and Singapore. Stibo Systems offers STEP as multi-tenant SaaS on Microsoft Azure and still releases on-premises STEP, with change logs up to release 2026.3. Stibo Systems says 77% of its customers had adopted SaaS in FY 2025-26.

How do the AI features of Bluestone PIM and Stibo Systems compare?

Both use AI on incoming supplier data and offer an MCP server for outside AI agents. Bluestone PIM's conversational AI Agent dates from October 2025, and its AI skills run on a model the customer picks. Stibo Systems announced AgentWorkx, starting with Upload Anything and Content Optimizer agents, in September 2026, and its platform page lists it as coming soon. Test what is available on your own data at the time of your demo.

Which one fits a company that also needs customer or supplier master data?

Stibo Systems runs customer, business partner, supplier and location data on the same STEP platform as product data, each sold as a Data Cloud. Bluestone PIM manages product data only, so those domains would stay in other systems. Decide the scope of your programme before you compare demos.

How do you choose between Bluestone PIM and Stibo Systems?

Write down your requirements first, including which data domains are in scope. Then run a scripted demo in which both vendors model your own products, import a real supplier file and sync with your ERP. Compare the offers over three to five years, including modules, connectors and partner work.

How this comparison was built

We compared the two vendors on public information only: their own websites, documentation and press releases, plus reporting that names its source. We did not run either product for this page and we do not score or rank. Where a vendor does not publish something, the page says so instead of guessing.

We have a relationship with every vendor on our platform. None gets preferential treatment: all are compared in the same way, on the same factors, for our customers.
