SAP Commerce Cloud (Hybris) Alternatives: 7 PIM Solutions to Compare
Stephan Spijkers · 2026-10-11 · 10 min read

SAP Commerce Cloud, formerly SAP Hybris, keeps product content inside the commerce platform. When a company reviews its commerce stack, the product content question comes with it: keep it there, or move it to a dedicated PIM that feeds the shop and every other channel. This page covers what SAP Commerce Cloud offers for product content, why enterprise buyers compare alternatives, and seven alternatives ordered by fit, with fit and watch-out notes from the analyst assessments on our vendor profiles.
What SAP Commerce Cloud (Hybris) is and who it fits
SAP Commerce Cloud, formerly SAP Hybris, is an enterprise omnichannel commerce platform with product content management (PCM) and PIM capabilities built in. According to our profile, it centralizes product information within the broader SAP ecosystem, with catalog management, internationalization and localization for global operations, and automated distribution of product data to multiple channels. It is sold as SaaS or on-premise and serves enterprise and large mid-market companies with B2B, B2C and B2B2C models.
Its fit is clearest for organizations that run their commerce on SAP Commerce Cloud and want product data managed in the same platform as the shop, close to their other SAP systems. Our profile does not yet include an analyst assessment of SAP Commerce Cloud, so this page does not rate its product content features. Ask SAP for references with your catalog size, channels and languages.
The diagram shows the first alternative pattern: a dedicated PIM holds the product record and feeds SAP Commerce Cloud as one channel among several. The other pattern replaces the commerce platform and its product content together.
Why teams look for an alternative to SAP Commerce product content
- The commerce platform is being replaced. When product content lives inside the commerce platform, a move to another platform moves the product content too. A dedicated PIM keeps the product record stable while the shop changes.
- Product data must serve more than the shop. Retailers, marketplaces, data pools and print each set their own requirements, so teams compare the built-in product content management with a dedicated PIM or syndication platform.
- Specialist capabilities are in scope. Supplier onboarding, a product DAM, GDSN, industrial classification such as ETIM or ECLASS, and print catalogs are core features of several PIMs. Check which ones your SAP Commerce setup covers and which need add-ons or custom work.
- Master data goes beyond product. If supplier, customer or location data needs a governed golden record outside the ERP, the comparison shifts to MDM-class suites.

- Salsify: best for consumer goods brands that syndicate product content to retailer networks.
- Crystallize: best for digital-native teams that replace commerce and product content with one headless backend.
The alternatives
Viamedici
Viamedici is a German enterprise suite that combines PIM, multidomain MDM with a golden record and supplier portal, DAM, and a configurator with CPQ, sold as SaaS, cloud-hosted or on-premise. It is the most SAP-oriented option here: our analyst sees the best fit with SAP-centric manufacturers and industrial distributors with configurable products, multilingual catalogs and governed master data outside SAP.
The analyst lists a credible SAP RFC integration as a strength, and the vendor lists SAP Commerce among its commerce connectors.
Check: it is not a lean composable PIM, so plan for suite complexity and system integrator cost. Evidence for GDSN and GS1 retail syndication is thin. Confirm the scope of the SAP Commerce connector in a proof of concept.
Stibo Systems
Stibo Systems is a Danish vendor, founded in 1976, whose STEP platform is multidomain MDM with PIM for the product domain, sold as SaaS, cloud-hosted or on-premise to large enterprises. Our analyst sees the best fit with global enterprises that need a multidomain golden record and product governance, often with GDSN or retailer synchronization, complex hierarchies and an ERP-centric landscape. Its profile lists SAP among its integrations.
Check: cost and project duration are the main watch-outs, and STEP may be the wrong tool if the job is lightweight enrichment. Read "multidomain" as product-centric until a proof of concept shows golden-record depth in other domains. More in our Stibo alternatives.
Contentserv
Contentserv is a PIM and product experience vendor based in Switzerland and Germany, sold as SaaS, cloud-hosted or on-premise. Our analyst sees the best fit with mid-market to enterprise European manufacturers, brands and retailers that need PIM and DAM in one product, supplier onboarding with golden-record patterns for product data, industrial classification and high-volume syndication, including a GDSN model for food and beverage.
In February 2025 Centric Software, the PLM vendor owned by Dassault Systèmes, announced it would acquire Contentserv.
Check: clarify the roadmap and support continuity under Centric. It does not replace a domain-agnostic MDM for customer or finance data. Its profile lists SAP among its ERP integrations; confirm how it connects to SAP Commerce Cloud.
Bluestone PIM
Bluestone PIM is a Norwegian SaaS PIM built on MACH principles, with an API-only architecture, for mid-market and enterprise organizations with large catalogs across markets, brands and channels. It handles variants, bundles and product families, with validation rules, completeness scoring, a native DAM and AI tools for enrichment and translation.
It fits enterprises that want product data independent of the commerce platform: the PIM holds the record and the shop consumes it through APIs, so the shop can change later without moving product data again.
Check: our analyst assessment says to evaluate it on deployment effort, proof of standards support and commercial transparency. The profile does not name an SAP Commerce connector, so confirm the integration path and its cost.
Syndigo
Syndigo is a US platform that combines PIM, MDM, DAM and content syndication with a network of retailers, and it is a certified GDSN data pool. Its profile lists integrations with SAP and Oracle ERPs and with commerce platforms such as Salesforce Commerce Cloud. Since September 2025 it also includes 1WorldSync; see our analysis of the deal.
Our analyst sees the best fit with enterprise teams in consumer goods, foodservice, health and beauty, hardlines and retail vendor management, where retailer compliance, GDSN and enhanced product page content drive revenue.
Check: Syndigo is not a classic PIM. Authoring and composable commerce APIs come second to network compliance, and the content hub and the Riversand MDM are two integration surfaces, so an architecture review is part of any evaluation.
Salsify
Salsify is a product experience management platform, founded in 2012, that helps brands and manufacturers centralize product data and rich media and syndicate it to retailers, distributors and digital channels. Its profile targets enterprise and mid-market consumer goods brands, manufacturers and retailers that sell through many retailer channels. In 2026 the investor Cinven agreed to acquire Salsify (our analysis).
Check: our profile has no analyst assessment for Salsify yet, so ask for references with your retailers and catalog size, compare recipient coverage with Syndigo, and ask about the roadmap after the Cinven deal. Confirm how it connects to your SAP systems.
Crystallize
Crystallize is a Norwegian SaaS backend that combines headless PIM, content and commerce, with a GraphQL API, subscriptions and multi-market pricing. It is the other pattern: replace SAP Commerce Cloud and its product content together with one composable backend and your own storefront. Our analyst sees the best fit with digital-native direct-to-consumer or B2B commerce teams that have engineers available.
Check: its profile targets small and mid-market companies, so test catalog size and enterprise requirements in a proof of concept. Our analyst does not see it as a pure PIM for ERP-centric catalog operations, so plan the SAP ERP integration, and it has no native GDSN, ETIM or marketplace syndication.
How to choose, and how to switch
Map what SAP Commerce does with product data
List the catalogs, classification, media, languages and channels, the integrations with SAP ERP and other systems, and who edits which fields. This shows what a PIM must take over.
Choose the pattern
Either keep SAP Commerce Cloud as the shop and put a PIM in front of it, or replace commerce and product content together. The pattern decides the shortlist.
Shortlist three and demo with your own data
Give each vendor one real catalog with variants and translations, and ask them to show it flowing into your commerce platform and one other channel. Let your product content team score the work.
Migrate in slices
Move one catalog, brand or country at a time, with a parallel run. SAP Commerce Cloud keeps running as a channel while authoring moves to the PIM.
Align the contracts
Check the renewal dates and notice periods of SAP Commerce Cloud and your current tools, so the proof of concept and the parallel run fit before the renewal date.

Frequently asked questions
What are the best alternatives to SAP Commerce Cloud (Hybris) for product content?
For SAP-centric enterprises, Viamedici and Stibo Systems. For enterprise PIM and DAM with supplier onboarding, Contentserv. For a composable PIM that feeds any commerce platform, Bluestone PIM. For retailer syndication, Syndigo and Salsify. To replace commerce and product content together, Crystallize.
Is SAP Hybris the same as SAP Commerce Cloud?
Yes. SAP Hybris is now known as SAP Commerce Cloud, an enterprise omnichannel commerce platform with product content management and PIM capabilities built in. It is sold as SaaS or on-premise.
Does SAP Commerce Cloud include a PIM?
It includes product content management and PIM capabilities inside the commerce platform: catalog management, localization and distribution of product data to channels. Whether that is enough depends on your channels beyond the shop and on your needs for supplier onboarding, DAM, GDSN, classification and print.
Do you need a separate PIM next to SAP Commerce Cloud?
Not always. A separate PIM pays off when product data must feed many channels beyond the shop, when you plan to replace the commerce platform, or when you need supplier onboarding, DAM, GDSN or classification at the core. The PIM then holds the product record and SAP Commerce Cloud becomes one channel.
Which PIM fits an SAP-centric enterprise?
Viamedici has a credible SAP RFC integration and lists SAP Commerce among its connectors. Stibo Systems fits ERP-centric enterprises that need a multidomain golden record. For any other PIM, confirm every SAP connector, who maintains it and what it costs.
Can you replace SAP Commerce Cloud and its product content in one move?
Yes, with a platform that combines product data, content and commerce, such as Crystallize. It fits digital-native teams with engineers. Check enterprise scale and the connection to your SAP ERP, because our analyst does not see it as a PIM for ERP-centric catalog operations.
How do you move product content out of SAP Commerce Cloud?
Map catalogs, classification, media and integrations, decide which fields the PIM will own, demo with your own data, and migrate one catalog, brand or country at a time while SAP Commerce Cloud keeps running as a channel. Move authoring to the PIM slice by slice.
