Salesforce Now Owns Informatica: What It Means for Product 360 and MDM Buyers

· 2026-10-21 · 7 min read

Salesforce completed its acquisition of Informatica on 18 November 2025. Informatica's MDM, data quality, governance, catalog and integration products now belong to a CRM company, and Salesforce sells them as part of the data foundation for its Agentforce 360 AI agents. Product 360, Informatica's PIM, is still sold and still receives releases. Neither the deal announcement nor the closing press release mentions it by name.

For Product 360 and Informatica MDM customers, the software in production did not change on the day of the close. Ownership did, along with the direction of the roadmap. This article sets out what Salesforce and Informatica have said, what they have not said about Product 360, and what the close changes for a company evaluating PIM.

The deal in numbers

  • Announced: 27 May 2025. Informatica's SEC filing shows the merger agreement was signed on 26 May.
  • Closed: 18 November 2025. The announcement had expected a close early in Salesforce's fiscal year 2027, which starts in February 2026, so it closed ahead of that schedule.
  • Price at announcement: about $8 billion in equity value, net of the Informatica shares Salesforce already owned, at $25 in cash per Class A and Class B-1 share.
  • Price at close: Salesforce's annual report for the year to 31 January 2026 puts the fair value of the consideration at about $9.6 billion. That is $9,538 million in cash, $62 million for the existing relationship between the two companies and $36 million for Informatica equity plans Salesforce took over. Informatica brought $1,405 million in cash of its own.
  • Funding: cash from Salesforce's balance sheet plus new debt.

The figures reported for this deal range from $8 billion to $10 billion. The $8 billion is the headline equity value from May 2025. The $9.6 billion is the accounting figure from Salesforce's annual report. The $10 billion comes from the April 2024 talks between the two companies, which broke down over price a year before this deal was signed.

What changed at the close

Salesforce's closing press release describes four ways Informatica will be used:

  • Data 360: Informatica will strengthen Data 360, the product formerly called Data Cloud. The May 2025 announcement still used the old name.
  • MuleSoft: Informatica's data integration and governance will be combined with MuleSoft's application integration and API management into one integration offering.
  • Agentforce 360: Informatica becomes the data foundation the AI agents read from.
  • Tableau: analytics users get richer metadata and lineage.

Salesforce also said it will "rapidly integrate" the Informatica stack, including "a single data pipeline with MDM on Data 360". Informatica now uses the name "Informatica from Salesforce". At Informatica World in May 2026 the company gave dates for the first results. MDM Integration with Data 360 is due in Q3 2026. Agentic Multidomain MDM and a Data Steward Agent are due in Q4 2026. The same release says that integration covers master data for products, accounts, finance and suppliers.

On customers outside Salesforce, Informatica's FAQ for existing customers says Informatica "will continue to support its existing data management solutions and partner integrations". At the close, Informatica CEO Amit Walia described the company as the "Switzerland" of AI data management. The same FAQ lists Informatica MCP servers and extensions that are available now on AWS, Databricks and Google Cloud.

Where Product 360 sits now

Product 360 is still on Informatica's website. Informatica markets it as "Agentic AI PIM for commerce" and describes it as part of a multidomain MDM and PIM platform that connects product data with customer, supplier and material data.

  • Releases continue: Informatica's documentation lists Product 360 SaaS release notes for April and July 2026, and a Product 360 SaaS section in the October 2026 release.
  • AI features: Informatica's Fall 2025 release, a few weeks before the close, put Agentic PIM for Product 360 and a CLAIRE Product Experience Agent for classifying and enriching product records into private preview.
  • Analyst position: the Product 360 page says Gartner named "Salesforce (Informatica)" a Leader in its 2026 Magic Quadrant for PIM Solutions. That is the vendor's description of the report.

None of the deal documents we read say anything specific about Product 360. That covers the May 2025 announcement, the November 2025 closing release and the May 2026 Informatica World release. They do not mention its roadmap, its support term, its deployment options or how it relates to Salesforce Commerce Cloud. When Salesforce says MDM is coming to Data 360, it is talking about master data in general. The documents do not say that Product 360 is part of it.

The parallel with SAP and Reltio

SAP followed a similar path in 2026. It announced the purchase of Reltio, a cloud-native multidomain MDM vendor, on 27 March and completed it on 7 May. SAP is making Reltio a core part of SAP Business Data Cloud and says it will remain available as a standalone product "for the foreseeable future". Our earlier piece on the SAP and Reltio announcement covers the March argument. What changed after the close covers the product, the price and MDG.

Both buyers make the same argument: AI agents need governed master data, so the MDM layer belongs inside the platform company. The difference for PIM teams is that Salesforce also bought a dedicated PIM in Product 360. Reltio is an MDM and data unification platform, not a PIM. Our timeline of PIM market acquisitions and funding lists both deals alongside the other ownership changes since 2024.

For companies evaluating PIM now

The deal does not make Product 360 a better or worse choice by itself. It changes what you should check. If your stack already runs on Salesforce, a closer link to Data 360 and Agentforce may count in its favour, once the features are generally available. If your stack does not run on Salesforce, weigh the vendor's commitment to other platforms as one evaluation point among several, along with data model, workflow, syndication and cost.
